Mount Tai, also known as Daishan, Daizong, Daiyue, Dongyue and Taiyue, is located in the central part of Shandong Province and is known as "the head of the five mountains", "the length of the five mountains", "the respect of the five mountains" and "the first mountain in the world". Mount Tai is one of the cradles of ancient culture in the Yellow River Basin. A long time ago, the surrounding area of Mount Tai was developed by human beings, as evidenced by Dawenkou culture at the southern foot of Mount Tai and Longshan culture at the northern foot.
Taishan has a long history of religion, and Buddhism was introduced into Taishan in the middle of the 4th century. In the second year of Zhao Yongning, Langgong became a monk and first went to Daiyin in Taishan to establish Langgong Temple and Lingyan Temple. During the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, the larger temples on Mount Tai were Huangsi, Shenbao Temple and Zhao Pu Temple. During the Tang and Song Dynasties, Lingyan Temple was extremely prosperous. Li Jifu, the prime minister of the Tang Dynasty, called Mount Taishan Lingyan Temple one of the "four wonders" in the world.
2. Hengshan Mountain in Nanyue
Hengshan Mountain, also known as Nanyue, Shouyue and Nanshan, is one of the "Five Mountains" in China. It is located in the southeast of central Hunan Province, China, between Hengyang and Xiangtan Basin, and its main part is located in Nanyue District of Hengshan County and the east of Hengyang County.
Nanyue is the center of China calendar system. Huangdi, Zhuan Xu and Yao Shun all made calendars in South Vietnam, and later entered the Central Plains. Yu Xia's Li Xia is also in Nanyue. Many scholars speculate that the Yu tablet on Nanyue Mountain is a record of Dayu's use of astronomy and meteorology to guide farming and water conservancy construction. Guan Daxun, deputy envoy of Huguang in Ming Dynasty, was the first to call Hengshan Mountain in Nanyue a "civilized Olympic Zone".
3. Xiyue Huashan
Huashan Mountain, called "Xiyue Mountain" in ancient times and "Taihua Mountain" in elegance, is one of the five famous mountains in China and the birthplace of Chinese civilization. Both "China" and "Huaxia" originated from Huashan Mountain.
The most important temple in Huashan is Xiyue Temple. The temple is ten miles below Huashan and five miles east of Huayin. The former site is in Huangshen Valley. It was built in the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, that is, the aforementioned Ji Ling Palace. In the eighth year of Emperor Huan of the Eastern Han Dynasty, he established the "Xiyue Huashan Temple Monument", saying that the rulers of the Eastern Han Dynasty sacrificed to China and built temples to pray for rain.
In the first year of Xingguang in the Northern Wei Dynasty, Wen Chengdi built a new temple in the north of Guandao Road, fifty miles east of Huayin, because the old temple had been destroyed. From the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, people of all ages were constantly maintaining and expanding it.
4. Mount Hengshan in Beiyue
Hengshan Mountain, also known as "Taiheng Mountain", was called Xuanwu Mountain and Lushan Mountain in ancient times, and its height was equivalent to Xuanyue Mountain. Hengshan Mountain is located at Hunyuan South 10 km in Datong City, Shanxi Province, 62 km away from Datong City. With Tianfengling and Cuiping Peak as the center, Hengshan Mountain is two peaks, including Tianfengling Scenic Area, Cuiping Peak Scenic Area, Qianfo Mountain Scenic Area, Hot Spring Scenic Area and Hunyuan City Scenic Area Group. Longshan area is a nature reserve.
In the landscape of Hengshan Mountain, Guolaoling, Gusaoyan, Feitian Grottoes, Fuxing Cave, Hufengtian and Daewoo Bay are full of magical colors, accompanied by beautiful myths and legends. Hanging pine, purple rain and bitter sweet well are wonders in the natural landscape.
5. Zhongyue Songshan Mountain
Songshan Mountain was called "a foreign country" in ancient times, "lofty" and "mountain worship" in Xia and Shang Dynasties, "Yue" in Western Zhou Dynasty, with Songshan as the center, Zuo Dai (Mount Tai), Huayou (Huashan) and Songshan as Zhongyue. Songshan belongs to the Funiu Mountain system, with Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province, in the east, Luoyang, the ancient capital in the west, the Yellow River in the north and Shui Ying in the south. The surrounding mountains span Xinmi, Dengfeng, Ruzhou, Gongyi, Yanshi, Yichuan and other cities and counties.
Songshan Mountain is a famous Buddhist mountain with rich and splendid Buddhist culture. Fawang Temple, founded in the Eastern Han Dynasty, is one of the earliest Buddhist temples in China. Only three years later than the White Horse Temple in Luoyang and 420 years earlier than the Shaolin Temple. According to Shuo Song, the White Horse Temple was originally a place to entertain guests from Siyi, so it can be said that the Fawang Temple was the beginning of the establishment of Buddhist temples in China.
Songshan is also a famous Taoist mountain. Zhongyue Temple was founded in the Qin Dynasty, formerly known as Taishi Temple, and once had the reputation of "flying to shine on the sun and gathering clouds in the pavilion". Zhongyue Temple is one of the holy places of Taoism and is known as the "sixth cave of Taoism". The Siyue Temple of Zhongyue Temple is unique among the five mountains, permeated with the religious concept of "five mountains coexist and five elements are perfect".
