He piled stones into various gestures with a humorous attitude, hoping that the audience would have the illusion of "stone-like".

artistic career

From June 5438 to February 2009, as a "younger generation" artist from China who moved to France for several generations, Ma Desheng's experience was the most legendary. His abstract art uses the western expressive oil painting form, showing the artistic tradition of China and the artistic heart of the East, and is unique in abstract art.. Like Xu Beihong, Lin Fengmian, Chang Yu, Wu Guanzhong, Zhu Dequn and Zhao Wuji, Ma Desheng rediscovered China in Paris, opening up a unique new aesthetic avenue for the integration of Chinese and Western arts.

From 65438 to 0979, China began reform and opening up. Ma Desheng and 23 young people including Ai Weiwei, Wang Keping, Rui Huang and Li Shuang formed the "Star Painting Society". In the same year, a modern art exhibition was held in Beijing, which was the first avant-garde art exhibition in Beijing after the Cultural Revolution. Their works exposed the dark side of society, advocated artistic freedom, and reflected on the pragmatic view of literature and art in China at that time.

"Star Art Exhibition" and "Star Art Exhibition" aroused people's attention to western art, developed the process of China's modernist art, and were called the forefront of contemporary art in China by art history critics. As a scarf figure, Ma Desheng's pioneering position in the history of contemporary art development in China has been recorded and affirmed.

It was during this period that Ma Desheng created more than 100 woodcut prints, with strong contrast between black and white, showing the style of western realism and expressionism, two of which have been collected by French museums. From 65438 to 0982, Ma Desheng began to create ink paintings, with abstract landscapes and female characters as themes. A year later, his works were first exhibited in a gallery in Lausanne, Switzerland. Since then, he has frequently participated in art galleries and exhibitions in Japan, Europe and the United States. From 65438 to 0986, Ma Desheng moved to Paris and became the first China ink painter to hold an exhibition in France sponsored by the French Ministry of Culture.

However, the world is not satisfactory. 1992, Ma Desheng, who had been suffering from polio since childhood and had to walk with crutches, lost his wife and legs in a fatal car accident in the United States. He suffered heavy physical and mental trauma and lingered on the edge of death for a long time. Just when the world thought he had "gone", he was struggling silently, fighting against his fate, overcoming his physical and mental pain with amazing willpower and restoring his ability to move; And specially made an easel that can rotate 360 degrees. With the help of nurses and instruments, I swing my upper body in a wheelchair to draw. I write poems at 10 every morning and at other times. His determination to pursue art is stronger than anyone else.

In 2002, Ma Desheng was reborn. He explored propylene and published a new work that seems to have nothing to do with his previous work, but he hid the essence of ink and wash. He combines irregular pebbles into a human shape with a unique shape. There are thick lines on the stone depicting the method of breaking the knife, and the brushwork of ink and wash is on it. Ma Desheng was deeply influenced by Badashan people, but he surpassed the traditional pen and ink skills. The artistic conception of ink and wash jumped above the canvas before the western acrylic dew texture, and the stone was covered with snowflake texture, as if peeling off from the mountains of China.

The acrylic paintings of these huge stones seem to express the painter's thoughts intentionally or unintentionally. "The sky is empty and there is nothing to worry about." In the face of wind and rain erosion, the nature of stone will never change, representing eternal waiting, eternal persistence and eternal faith. The Story of the Stone by Ma Desheng is also reminiscent of A Dream of Red Mansions, one of the four classical novels in ancient China, formerly known as The Story of the Stone. In the book, when Nu Wa tried to mend the sky, there was a stone that was useless, but it was a bit spiritual after cultivation. By chance, it reincarnated into the protagonist Jia Baoyu in the book, experienced all the greed, anger and delusion in the world, and finally realized the truth.

Taoism says that "man practices the earth, the earth practices the sky, and the sky practices nature", and a stone that fills the sky is transformed into an abstract element on the canvas through the fusion of Ma Desheng's thoughts. The way of "doing nothing without doing anything" is to show the painter's lasting practice. These stones are both concrete and abstract; Whether it is a stone or a person, it is simple and natural, standing like a sculpture, and the ever-changing "character" emotion seems to live on the wall; Whether it is moving or static, whether it is joy or resentment, whether it is dancing or dancing, whether it is love or hope, the pioneer like a dream is looking forward to the future, and the guardian of heaven and earth is laughing at life; Ma Desheng personifies huge stones in order to reconnect man and nature, man and root, man and eternity, which shows that the highest wisdom of man is to achieve harmonious coexistence in the unpredictable universe. In the world of stones, Ma Desheng freely explores life and understands all the mysteries hidden in life.

Xu Beihong, Chang Yu, Wu Guanzhong, Zhao Wuji and Zhu Dequn showed the essence of classical spirit to the world. Ma Desheng sublimated the romanticism in Chu-Han culture, painted stones, taste of china's philosophy and realized life. Stone is outside the dust, man is inside the dust, and the way of Zhouyi wanders in the meantime. For decades, vicissitudes of life, joys and sorrows, and painters have all been vented through the swaying of propylene.

PierreCabanne, a French art critic who has studied modern and contemporary artists in China, once said: "The painter and poet Ma Desheng encapsulated the charm of the holy mountain in these stone works with his exquisite skills and strong feelings. Please enjoy it with your eyes and heart."

art exhibition

Artist: Ma Desheng

Name: Ma Desheng took the stage in 2005.

Size: 130×97cm

Exhibition: Pumice World Painting Ma Desheng solo exhibition, Hong Kong University Art Museum, 2006.

Ma Desheng 1952 was born in Beijing, and the early works of the star art exhibition were mainly woodcut prints. Between realism and expression, since 2002, Ma Desheng began to pile irregular goose egg stones on canvas into different dynamic figures or things with propylene as the material. In addition to using his favorite black and white colors, he also tried to use bright and free solid colors such as red, orange, purple and pink to create a smooth background. The stone lines on the canvas are similar to the early Ming and Jian woodcuts, and their texture inherits the rich ink in the original ink painting, and then the heavy texture is created by oil painting, which enhances the heavy feeling of the picture. Black oil paintings and deliberate blank spaces also highlight the light and shadow of the stone. At the same time, the pattern composed of layers of stones imitates people, and the abstract face is like talking to people, vivid and full of vitality. Stone modeling, peculiar texture, lively stone statues and pure monochrome background set each other off. Obviously, his creative thinking

No longer limited to form or genre, but pay more attention to the profound connotation contained in the picture. He piled stones into various postures, gave them life, turned them into souls in his paintings, and expressed his feelings about the world implicitly and humorously.
