Yu, a native of Cixi, Ningbo, Zhejiang, is an internationally renowned cultural history scholar, writer, essayist and writer, and a famous contemporary art theorist in China. He is currently the Dean of Yu Qiu College of China Academy of Fine Arts and the Dean of Humanities and Arts College of Macau University of Science and Technology. He used to be the Dean of Shanghai Theatre Academy, the Vice Chairman of Shanghai Theatre Association and the judge of the Youth Song Contest. In 2006, he was the richest man in the first "Rich List of Chinese Writers". His collection of cultural essays played a very important role in Chinese mainland's bestsellers from 1990s to the early 20th century, and also had a great influence in Taiwan Province Province and Hongkong.
