Zhu Lei was born in Nanjing, and began to study guzheng at the age of 6, under the tutelage of Professor Yan Aihua, a famous guzheng educator and performer of Nanjing Art Institute. At the age of 7, he won the first place in the National Children's Guzheng Invitational Tournament, and in 1989, he won the first place in the junior group of the Art Cup China Musical Instrument International Competition. At the age of 9, he created the youngest person in China music industry to record a solo album and hold a solo concert. He was once called a musical prodigy by guzheng circles. The late famous guzheng master Cao Zheng, musicians Liu Dehai, Min Huifen, etc. Highly praised and encouraged them to inscribe.

10 years old, admitted to the primary school affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music, under the teacher Wang Shihuang. Learn from Professor Tommy, a famous guzheng master. During my school days, I won the grand prize of Guzheng Competition such as "Oriental Cup" and "Long Yin Cup", and in 2002, I won the silver prize of Guzheng Youth Professional Group in the 1st National Folk Musical Instrument Solo Competition organized by the Ministry of Culture. He has won many national scholarships such as Fu Chengxian and Xia Lei Shidong, and participated in the recording of several influential demonstration textbooks distributed at home and abroad. He has released two solo albums, Nanxiangzi and Sky in Paris, and edited and published a series of teaching materials, such as Comparative Cards of Common Phones and Scales of Guzheng and Jigsaw Cards for Fast Reading of Guzheng, which are well received by experts and people of all ages, and are considered as one of the most influential young guzheng players in contemporary China. Invited to visit the United States, Germany, South Korea, Thailand and other countries and regions, his superb skills have been widely praised.
