The school was founded in 195 1, formerly known as Northeast Institute of Education, and renamed shenyang normal College in 1953, which was one of the first two undergraduate normal colleges in Northeast China at that time. 1965 changed its name to Liaoning first normal college, and 1978 restored the name of shenyang normal college. In 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, shenyang normal College and Liaoning Education College merged to form Shenyang Normal University.
