In recent years, China men's basketball team has shown some abilities to beat the top teams in Europe. In the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, under the leadership of head coach Del Harris, the China men's basketball team narrowly defeated the defending world champion Serbia and Montenegro 67-66 in the final match of the group stage and advanced to the quarter-finals. In the 2006 World Championships, China also stood out from Group D. After defeating Senegal and Slovenia in the last two group matches, it advanced to the knockout stage with 16. In the end, it lost to Greece, which eliminated the United States, in the top 16, and won the silver medal in the championship with 64-95, ranking 15 among the 24 teams in the World Championships.
There are superstars like Yao Ming, the main center of the Houston Rockets in NBA, powerful players like Yi Jianlian of Wizards and Sun Yue of Lakers, and excellent player Rainbow Zhi Zhi who joined NBA. The current head coach is American coach Dunward.
