Datong Station is located in the downtown area of Datong City, Shanxi Province, in the middle of beijing-baotou railway, and was opened in 19 14. It is the intersection of Beijing-Baotou line, Beitongpu line (Daqin line, Kouquan branch line) and Yungang branch line. It is a hub station for material exchange in North China and Northwest China and coal transportation in Shanxi. Datong Station is divided into East Field and West Field.

The East Yard is a horizontal parking lot, which is responsible for the arrival and departure of passenger trains in all directions of Beijing-Baotou, Tongpu, Daqin, Kouquan and Yungang, the transfer of goods trains inside and outside Beijing-Baotou, and the increase and decrease of axles of technical direct trains between Fengtai West and Baotou West.

The West Yard is a mixed two-stage four-yard, and the West Yard is an arrival yard, which is mainly responsible for the arrival of disintegrated freight trains in Beijing-Baotou, Tongpu, Kouquan and Yungang. The West Second Station is the starting station, which is mainly responsible for the arrival of freight trains in Tongpu, Kouquan and Yungang and the departure of freight trains in Beijing-Baotou uplink and downlink directions; The West Third Yard is the marshalling yard, which is mainly responsible for the disintegration, assembly and marshalling of freight trains in all directions of the station; Xisichang is the starting station, which is mainly responsible for the starting and transit of freight trains in Tongpu, Kouquan and Yungang directions.

In addition, there is Datong North Station in beijing-baotou railway, and there are four arrival and departure lines, which mainly handle the crossing and crossing of trains. There are two power plant (in-plant) stations in Datong No.2 Power Plant, including two arrival and departure lines and four other stations, which mainly handle the arrival, departure and unloading of coal trains in No.2 Power Plant.

There is a Datong station freight yard on the left side of Tongpu downstream at the southern end of Xisi Factory. At the same time, 37 special lines and pipelines are connected through East Yard, West Yard 1, West Yard 2 and West Yard 4 of Datong Station respectively, which are responsible for the main arrival and departure tasks of production and living materials of major enterprises in Datong.

At present, Datong Station is equipped with seven shunting locomotives, which are respectively responsible for the tasks of dismantling, grouping and sending all the yards in the station. The station sends more than 7,000 passengers and handles more than 6,000 vehicles per day.
