Commander Ye Fei, known as "Little Ye Ting", failed to make his own analysis, inspection and preparation as in previous battles because of the tedious local work. In the face of various questions from Wei Guoqing's political commissar, he said, "You worry too much. My political commissar, Xiamen is the enemy's fortress with permanent fortifications, and the defenders are the Tang Group, known as' Little White Celebration', with sufficient troops and naval and air support. Kinmen Island is small and has no strong fortifications. The defenders are nominally corps, but in fact there are only 20,000 beaten soldiers. To tell the truth, if Chiang Kai-shek hadn't strictly adhered to it, Li Liangrong would have abandoned the island and fled south as early as when our army conquered Xiamen. One main force of the 28th Army and two main groups of the 29th Army have more than enough money to attack. I will still say, "This election is bound to win! "
After being ordered to attack the gold, the frontline command of our 28 th Army began to prepare for crossing the sea. However, when the Kuomintang retreated from the mainland coast, it wantonly destroyed and plundered fishermen's boats, leaving few fishing boats. This makes it difficult for our army to prepare ships to cross the sea. It was not until 10 year124 October that we collected ships that could sail through three groups of about 3,000 people at a time, which was four days later than the total attack time on Kinmen. As it is impossible to raise a ship and sail six regiments at a time, the frontline commander of the 28th Army made the following prediction: even if the first echelon landed in three regiments, the second echelon and the third echelon could sail three regiments when the ship returned, so that a total of six regiments could land about13,000 people. But unexpectedly, the crew of these new ships are mostly foreigners, unfamiliar with the channel and without unified training, so it is very difficult to command and dispatch. Nor did it take into account the changes in the enemy's situation and sea conditions, and the possible reinforcements of the enemy at any time, let alone the relatively strong combat capability of the Kuomintang navy and air force. In addition, by the end of the battle of Xiamen, the defenders of Jinmen had been reinforced by the 18th Army of Hu Lian Corps, and the total strength of the Kuomintang on the island had reached 30,000.
After the first echelon landed successfully, the first echelon attacking Jinmen, which was composed of 244 regiments of 82nd Division, 25 regiments of 84th Division and 253 regiments of 85th Division in 29 army, set sail from Union, Avenue and Houcun respectively. Because all the troops did not conduct coordinated drills before crossing the sea, the landing fleet lost contact with the superior command post as soon as it left the dock, and when it was intercepted by the Kuomintang gunfire during the voyage, it lacked the experience of coordinated operations between landing fleets, and some ships were scattered during the voyage.
Nevertheless, the three landing troops of my first echelon landed successfully at 2 am on the 25th. The 244th Regiment on the left successfully landed between Qionglin and Lancuo in Kinmen Island, captured more than 0/00 Kuomintang officers and soldiers and occupied more than 0/00 enemy bunkers. After the vanguard battalion of Zhonglu 25 1 regiment successfully landed in the north of Anqi and east of Lincuo in the northwest of Jinmen Island, the follow-up battalion was violently attacked by enemy gunfire, resulting in nearly 1/3 casualties. After successfully landing between Guningtou and Lincuo in the northwest corner, the right-wing 253rd Regiment immediately attacked the enemy and captured the beachhead position of Guningtou before dawn.
Before the successful landing of the first echelon, the former commander of the 28 th Army had arranged three military staff officers to organize the fleet to return. Before leaving, the deputy commander of the army shook the hands of the three staff officers and said, "You have no other tasks. Your task is to organize and urge the fleet to return quickly after landing on the beach. Remember! Remember! Be sure to return to China quickly! " However, after the landing troops landed successfully, the fleet did not return. It turned out that when the first echelon ships landed at around 2 am, it was the peak of high tide. Most of the obstacles originally set up by Kuomintang troops on the beach were submerged by the tide. Many ships rushed to the obstacles and their bottoms were caught. The troops were forced to launch in an obstacle, but the ship was temporarily unable to move. Coupled with the fierce firepower of the enemy at that time, the boatmen fled one after another, and the ships arrived at the beach first. After our troops occupy the beachhead, they will hide everywhere.
When these dozens of returning ships left Kinmen Island, they were attacked by enemy gunfire on the beach, and many ships were sunk and injured. Later, the fleet was intercepted by Kuomintang naval vessels. The fleet returning from Guningtou inexplicably strayed into the latent area of enemy ships, and was later mistaken by our intelligence ship for the reinforcement fleet of the Kuomintang. Unexpectedly, all the long-range artillery groups arranged by our army on Xiamen Island and Shima Line were strangely sunk.
At 6 o'clock in the morning on the 25th, Zhu Yunqian, deputy commander of Xiao Feng and political commissar of the 85th Division, was worried. Under the bright sky, a tragic scene was left: the commanders and soldiers watched the ships burning in the enemy's sea-crossing bombing and shelling, and the second and third echelon plans originally planned to transport 1 1000 people to the island to fight were difficult to implement. Helpless, they asked the leaders of the Corps to send a boat to support them immediately, but where can there be a boat at this time? The fierce attack and defense of Kinmen caused great losses to the Kuomintang defenders. Chiang Kai-shek decided to keep Kinmen Island at all costs in order to keep the forefront of Taiwan Province Island and leave a barrier for Taiwan Province Island.
At 4: 00 a.m. on 25th, Major General Li Yuxi, commander of the Second Coastal Defence Fleet of the Kuomintang, was ordered to lead the flagship Taiping of the fleet from Penghu base to Jinmen Island for reinforcements. Before Li Yuxi arrived in Kinmen, he had ordered the Kuomintang navy stationed in Kinmen Island to conduct a sea blockade. At the same time, Hu Lian Corps' 1st18th Army, 1st19th Army, 1st14th Division, 1st19th Division and 1st1Division, with the cooperation of tanks and artillery, arrived on 25th. At that time, the PLA troops were more than ten miles away from the beachhead position. Seeing this situation, Hu Lian gave a dead order, ordering the 18th Army, the main force of the Corps, to fight and launch an anti-encirclement campaign. He also sent circuitous troops to occupy the beachhead position of the People's Liberation Army, cut off the retreat of the People's Liberation Army, and destroyed all ships stranded at low tide with artillery fire.
Xing Yongsheng, head of the 244th Regiment of the People's Liberation Army, led the comrades of the whole regiment to fight tenaciously until noon on 25th 12, and held their ground with the sacrifice of most officers and men of the whole regiment. The main force of the 25 1 regiment fought fiercely with the enemy until 3 pm, and then broke through and joined the 253rd regiment in Guningtou.
25 1 Feng Shaotang, deputy head of the regiment, led two classes of soldiers to stick to Lin Cuo and fought hard for 9 hours, repelling the enemy's seven attacks. Later, in order to preserve their strength, they also took the initiative to break through and join the 253rd regiment in Guningtou. In the case that the enemy is strong and we are weak, our three registered troops gathered in Guningtou and launched a fierce battle with the enemy.
For a whole day and night, our army didn't get a drop of water, but the enemy, who was several times my size, took advantage of the strength of the people and constantly rotated the officers and men who surrounded the PLA. In this way, the fighting continued until the evening of the 25th, and the officers and men won another favorable fighting opportunity with the help of darkness. At this point, the landing forces of the three regiments of the People's Liberation Army lost more than half. According to the report of the island walkie-talkie, there are only 700 people left in the 244th regiment, 25 1 regiment, 200 people, and more people left in the 253rd regiment, but ammunition is very scarce. The Kuomintang troops put in more troops before dusk in an attempt to annihilate all the first batch of PLA troops in Guningtou, and were later repelled by the PLA with the help of darkness.
From the night of1October 25th to the night before dawn of1October 26th, the whole battle of Kinmen Island, which lost all ammunition and food, was the key to the success of the whole battle. At that time, facing the Golden Gate Island across the sea, the commanders and fighters of the 10 Corps and the 28th Army were all worried. While studying the operational countermeasures, the leading organs of the Tenth Corps sent people to search for ships again. Despite a lot of efforts, the assembled ship can carry four companies. The former commander of the 28th Army decided that Sun, the leader of the 26th Regiment, led two companies of the Regiment and two companies of the 259th Regiment to reinforce the first echelon of Jinmen, and decided that Sun was in charge of the command of the whole registered troops. On the night of 25th, Kuomintang troops were most worried about the PLA reinforcements, so they sent planes to patrol the sea and threw a lot of flares. The flagship of "Taiping" also led two gunboats to patrol the waters north of Guningtou, intercepting all ships from the mainland and constantly shelling the mainland and Guningtou. Faced with such a dilemma, Sun led four officers and men of the company, regardless of the artillery attack, and used the cover of night to escape the inspection of the Kuomintang navy and air force. Finally, they landed successfully in Huwei Township and Guningtou at 3 am on the 25th. These four companies are divided into two parts. Sun, who landed from Huwei Township, led two companies with 246 regiments. As soon as he landed, he wiped out the Kuomintang Army 1 Battalion, then advanced to the Shuangrushan area and actively got in touch with the first echelon. As soon as they landed, the two companies of the 259th regiment that landed from Guningtou entered the area blocked by the Kuomintang army. They had to use fire to occupy several bunkers, and then fought tenaciously according to these bunkers all day, until the ammunition ran out on the evening of the 26th.
In the early morning of the 26th, Sun, who was registered by the second echelon, got in touch with the troops registered by the first echelon. However, due to the fact that the number of reinforcements in the second echelon is too small and too wide, it is impossible to change the situation. 26th was a very tragic day for me to attack Kinmen Island. After dawn, the situation on the island deteriorated sharply. After the main force of the Kuomintang stationed in the island rested, under the cover of the navy and air force, it violently attacked Guningtou, Lincuo and Putou again. According to the report from the landing troops that morning, the number of our 25 1 regiment and 253 regiment is only a few hundred!
On the morning of 26th, the Corps rushed to Kinmen and went to the front to bid with Tang. The Kuomintang infantry could not attack Guningtou for a long time. He Tang asked Taiwan Province Province to send planes to bomb the buildings in the village, and then approached them door to door with tank guns and rocket launchers.
Late at night on the 26th, it was difficult for me to support the troops that had run out of ammunition and rice for two days and two nights. Sun, Xing Yongsheng, Tian Zhichun, Xu Bo and Chen Lihua held a temporary combat meeting in the ravine. In view of the fact that our army has landed in the 10 battalion with more than 5,000 casualties and no complete company and battalion, we decided to divide the army into several guerrillas to deal with the enemy.
At 2200 hours, the frontline commander of the 28th Army sent a telegram to the troops. In order to preserve their last strength, they hope that frontline commanders at all levels will be flexible and use the bamboo rafts and boats of the enemy or people in all corners of the island to withdraw to the mainland in batches or individually. China's coastal areas will send ships, troops and firearms to meet and rescue the evacuees.
After midnight on the 26th, the contact between the former commanders of the 28th Army and the registered troops was gradually interrupted.
In the early morning of the 27th, Xu Bo, head of the 253rd regiment, called and said that more than 600 officers and men of the regiment 1 Battalion had all died in Guningtou, and the rest 150 and 70 members of the 244th regiment were going to the seaside to look for ships. This is the last call of the 253rd regiment, and we haven't heard from it since. 25 1 Liu Tianxiang, head of the regiment, told the former army commander for the last time that my days were numbered. Good luck to the chief, and long live the new China! * * * Long live! Long live Chairman Mao! Before Liu Tuanchang's words were finished, there was an explosion in the earphone, and Liu Tuanchang died gloriously.
At midnight on the 26th, I logged into the army and broke north under the cover of night. When I couldn't find a boat by the sea, I moved to the southeast, ready to go to the mountains to deal with the enemy for a long time, waiting for the arrival of the follow-up troops. On the morning of the 27th, these officers and men were discovered by the enemy and immediately broke through to the vicinity of Shuangru Mountain. Then we met the enemy again, and in the fierce battle, our officers and men made a breakthrough again. However, the officers and men who completed the breakthrough were shelled by Kuomintang naval warships. These warships bypassed the North Sea in Guningtou and bombed the dead corners where ground artillery could not shoot. Under the attack of enemy land and sea weapons, officers and men with weapons fought to the death, while officers and men without ammunition were captured. By the morning of 27th 10, the fighting in Kinmen was basically over. After the Battle of Kinmen, a few officers and men who succeeded in breaking through still insisted on guerrilla warfare in mountainous areas. Until the afternoon of the 28th, our officers and men were still fighting fiercely with the enemy in the cliff shoal, and under the leadership of the eldest grandson of the 26th regiment, they quietly reached Shatou. Regrettably, he was once again surrounded by Kuomintang troops near Shatou. In the hopeless situation of breaking through, Sun committed suicide after being injured, and all the other soldiers were captured. Xing Yongsheng, head of our 244th regiment, was seriously injured and surrounded by Kuomintang troops. He died shortly after his arrest. 25 1 After the sacrifice of Liu Tianxiang, the head of the regiment, Tian Zhichun, the political commissar, led 50 people to fight guerrilla warfare and was finally captured because of running out of ammunition. Chen Lihua, the political commissar of the 253rd regiment, was surrounded by guerrillas and fought to the last sacrifice. According to the war history published in Taiwan Province Province, Xu Bo, the head of the 253rd Regiment, hid in the cave for more than a month, making a living by coming out at night to dig sweet potatoes in the farmland, and was captured by the Kuomintang army repeatedly searching for mountains. At this point, 9086 people, including boatmen and civilian workers, who I logged into the army, all died heroically except some who were captured. Ye Fei painfully asked for punishment for the defeat in the Battle of Kinmen, which caused the whole army and the whole country to shake. This defeat was extremely rare in the history of our army. Several failures in the history of war in the past, such as the Xiangjiang War in the Long March, the failure of the Red Army's West Route Army and the Southern Anhui Incident, also lost many people, but none of them were wiped out. This time, more than 9,000 people lost three regiments!
On the second day after the defeat of Kinmen, Xiao Feng, deputy commander of the 28th Army, and Li Mancun, director of the Political Department, looked pale and came to the office of Ye Fei, commander of the Corps, crying. Commander Ye Fei ruthlessly said to them, "Why are you crying? Crying won't solve the problem. Now you should boost your morale and prepare to attack Kinmen again! As the commander of the legion, I am responsible for this failure. Go home. " As soon as Xiao Feng and Li Mancun left Commander Ye Fei's office, Ye Fei was criticized by Sanye: "The main reason for this defeat is underestimation and impatience." At the same time, the Tenth Corps was asked to "deeply review this experience and lesson".
1 65438+1October1,the enlarged meeting of the Party Committee of the Tenth Corps was held in Laohudong, Xiamen. Ye Fei drafted a telegram to Commander Chen Yi after the meeting and reported it to the Central Committee for punishment. * * * said at that time: "The fall of Kinmen is not a question of punishment, but a question of learning lessons." 1October 8, 165438, * * * put forward: "It is the first undue loss since the liberation war for more than three years to fight the enemy with three regiments." At the same time, the Central Military Commission ordered Ye Fei to sum up experience, draw lessons and prepare to attack gold again.
As a result of the incident, the Korean War broke out in 1950, and * * * decided to stop the task of solving Kinmen and concentrate on fighting bandits. In this way, General Ye Fei and the soldiers of our 10th Corps lost a chance to atone.
