Weng Sizai was born in 1948. Researcher of East China Normal University, senior reporter of Wen Hui Xinmin Daily, Peking Opera scholar and playwright.

A native of Wuxian County, Jiangsu Province, was born in a customs family in Shanghai. He has been a reporter, editor of Xinmin Evening News, minister of literature and art, stationmaster of Beijing correspondent station, deputy director of feature department and deputy editor-in-chief of Wen Hui Film Times. He has won the China News Award, the National Live Short News Award, the Shanghai News Award and the National Evening News Good News Award. Now he has retired from his first-line post and served as the cultural development consultant of Wen Hui Xinmin Newspaper Group. He is also the director of China Opera Society and the executive director of Shanghai Dramatists Association. .

His plays include Tang Guifei, Xuanzang's Going through the Customs, Taoist Temple and Qinyuan, and the dance drama Yang Guifei, which is a cooperation between China and Japan. Academic works include A Hundred Years' Talk about Peking Opera, A Study of Yu Shuyan and Biography of Yu Shuyan. The thesis includes reading notes, the relationship between Mei School and Mei Lanfang system, Cheng's scholar personality, a new interpretation of Beijing Opera's phonology, Tan Yu's basic theory, Tanmen's Seven Dynasties, Centennial Sacrifice, Meng Xiaodong's Centennial Sacrifice and On the Attempt of Readers' Rebellious Psychological and Cultural Industry. He is the author of the phonological series of the Encyclopedia of Chinese Peking Opera and the reviser of Yu Shuyan Meng Xiaodong's singing collection.
