Brief introduction of artist Zhao Shutong
Zhao Shutong, a famous sculptor, art educator and collector, is a native of Chengdu, a national first-class artist, a professor at China Academy of Fine Arts, and a joint international college of Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University in distinguished professor. Graduated from sichuan fine arts institute and Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1950s.

He has been engaged in art education, urban sculpture creation, investigation, research and restoration of ancient sculptures and paintings for many years, and is the main creator of large clay sculpture rental houses. He once led a team to restore Dazu Grottoes in Chongqing and Kannonji in Xinjin, Chengdu, the famous Ming Dynasty sculptures and murals. He is currently the executive director of China Cultural Relics Society and Cultural Relics Restoration Committee, and the president of Venetian merchant ceramic tile art.

His main works include: sculpture in front of Chairman Mao Memorial Hall (cooperation), sculpture of "Erqi Workers" in Chinese Revolution Museum, sculpture of "Long March of the Red Army" in China Military Museum (cooperation), sculpture of "Yihai Alliance" in Xichang, sculpture of "Su Dongpo" in Meishan, large white marble sculpture of "Ode to Unity and Joy" in Dali, Yunnan, victory rescue sculpture in Longhua, Shenzhen, and large purple sand "Wanfubi". The main collections are: traditional woodcarving, puppet shadow play, New Year pictures, temple paintings, Thangka, embroidery, stele extension, ceramics, bamboo weaving, calligraphy and painting, natural stone paintings, and "Four Treasures of the Study" miscellaneous items. There are tens of thousands of pieces with high quality, large quantity, wide variety, early age and many series, and it takes tens of thousands of square meters to display them all, which is known as "the best in China".

In 2002, Zhao Shutong was appointed honorary dean of the School of Ethnic Arts of Southwest University for Nationalities.

In 2003, Zhao Shutong donated 47,000 pieces of precious shadow play worth more than 80 million yuan to China Academy of Fine Arts for free, which contributed to the establishment of the Shadow Play Art Museum of China Academy of Fine Arts, and Zhao was appointed as the curator.

In May, 2008, Zhao Shutong was appointed honorary curator of China Shadow Play Museum.

In May 2008, he was awarded the title of Academician by the American Institute of International Culture.

In June 2008, he served as chairman of the Macao International Collectors Association.

In August 2008, he served as a member of the jury of the International Sculpture Competition of the Beijing International Olympic Games (12 members from China, 19 members from seven international members).
