Wang Weilie, researcher of Policy Research Office of Guangzhou Municipal Committee, is a department-level cadre. The deceased Yang Wenjuan was his ex-wife and a lecturer in the history department of Guangzhou University. They married 1999, divorced in 2008, and had a son, 10 years old. Perhaps considering their son's feelings, the two did not announce their divorce to their families and the outside world and continued to live together. The prosecution pointed out that on September 23, 20 10, the two men boarded the gambling ship "Macau Shide" in Hong Kong, which sailed out of the high seas on the same day and returned to Hong Kong the next day. At 7: 30 a.m. on 24th, witnesses saw Yang Wenjuan sitting on the ground, with his head down and no response, while Wang Weilie grabbed Yang Wenjuan's head with both hands and pushed him out of the railing. She was so scared that she went to the service desk on the 6th floor to inform the staff, but when the security guard arrived, Yang Wenjuan had disappeared. Some crew members heard Wang Weilie mumbling "Gambling is really harmful" before returning to his room, so they suspected that he had an argument with Yang Wenjuan because of losing money and pushed him into the sea. At about 8: 45, the marine police found Yang Wenjuan's body in the nearby waters and immediately arrested Wang Weilie.
In the trial and court, Wang Weilie said that on the morning of the incident, he knocked out his ex-wife to prevent her from committing suicide, but she fell beside the fence of the cruise ship. Wang Weilie said that he thought that his ex-wife had been seriously injured and died, and suddenly remembered that she had mentioned a sea burial, so he decided to push it into the sea and fulfill his wish. Wang Weilie also claimed that due to the pressure of studying for a doctorate, she tried to commit suicide many times. However, the statement of "helping his ex-wife to be buried at sea" suddenly became a laughing stock after being reported.
In his self-defense, Wang Weilie also overturned the theory of sea burial, pointing out that he pushed his "corpse" into the sea because he was worried that others would misunderstand that he had killed the deceased, causing the illusion that she could not stop her from committing suicide. The prosecution does not accept this explanation. According to the autopsy report, Yang Wenjuan died of drowning, that is, she was alive when she was pushed into the sea. The deceased had many bruises, including a broken hand, blood on his wrist, bruises on his temples and lacerations on his head. Relatives of the deceased also testified that the deceased was optimistic and loved his work. "Many friends have never heard that she is going to commit suicide or be buried at sea after her death." Finally, the day before yesterday, a jury composed of seven people found Wang Weilie guilty of murder with a large ratio of 6 1 and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
