What's the difference between fat ap and thin ap?
The difference between fat ap and thin ap lies in:

1. Thin AP is mainly used in demanding environments. In order to realize authentication, an authentication server or switch supporting authentication function is usually needed. If the thin AP needs a dedicated wireless controller, it can only be used by the wireless controller, and it cannot be configured by itself, which is suitable for large-scale heat preservation.

2. Fat AP is mostly used in families and small networks with complete functions. Generally, a device can realize access, authentication, routing, VPN, address translation and even firewall functions.

AP is the hub of traditional wired network, and it is also the most commonly used equipment when building a small wireless local area network. AP is equivalent to a bridge connecting wired network and wireless network. Its main function is to connect all wireless network clients together, and then connect the wireless network to Ethernet.

Most wireless AP supports multi-user access, data encryption, multi-rate transmission and other functions, and some products even provide perfect wireless network management functions. For small wireless local area networks such as homes and offices, generally only one wireless AP is needed to realize the wireless access of all computers.

The indoor coverage of AP is generally 30m ~ 100m, which can interconnect AP products from many manufacturers and increase the coverage area of WLAN. Just because the coverage of each AP is limited, just as mobile phones can roam between base stations, wireless LAN clients can roam between APS.
