The Historical Evolution of Anhui Province
Anhui province is an important birthplace of Chinese civilization. A human activity site about 2.5 million years ago was discovered in Renzi Cave in Fanchang County, and a Paleolithic site of "Hexian Ape Man" about 300,000-400,000 years ago was excavated in Longtan Cave in Hexian County.
In the Neolithic Age (654.38+ 10000 to 4000 years ago), Anhui was an area influenced by Yangshao culture, Longshan culture, Qingliangang culture and printed glazed pottery culture. In Shang Dynasty, Bozhou was once the soup capital. During the Warring States Period, Gushouchun (now Shouxian) was the capital of the late Chu State.
The Qin dynasty implemented the county system. Huaibei area of Anhui Province belongs to Dangxian, surabaya county, Jianghuai County and Jiujiang County, and southern Anhui Province belongs to Yan County. During the Han Dynasty, Anhui belonged to Yangzhou, Henan and Xuzhou. During the Three Kingdoms period, Anhui belonged to Wu and Wei, and there were many wars in Anhui.
During the Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties and Sui Dynasties, Anhui belonged to Yang, Xu and Yu. In Song Dynasty, Huizhou merchants rose, and Huizhou's economy and culture began to have an important impact on the whole country. In Yuan Dynasty, Anhui belonged to Henan, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. In the Ming Dynasty, Anhui was directly under the jurisdiction of Nanjing.
When Anhui was established as a province in the Qing Dynasty, it governed seven provinces including Anqing, Huizhou, Ningguo, Chizhou, Taiping, Luzhou and Fengyang, and three zhili provinces including Chuzhou, Hezhou and Guangde. The layout was basically finalized, and Anqing's status as a temporary provincial capital was established. In the early years of the Republic of China, Anhui Province was divided into Wuhu Road, Anqing Road and Huaisi Road.
