Twelve years of orthodox basic education in China, twelve years of bad cold window. Junior high school participated in the middle school biology Olympic Games twice, and won the first prize and the special prize at the provincial and district levels respectively. Three years in high school, to be fair, I only worked for half a year and lost eight pounds for a college entrance examination report card with a total score of 623. With my love for biology, I applied for the School of Life Sciences of Shandong University and was admitted.
After entering the university, I found that the ideal free and open ivory tower is still out of reach, but for me, it is "like a loach getting mud." Although the course burden has more than doubled compared with middle school, I prefer this busyness. The teaching of basic courses should not be regarded as ideal. I think this is a common problem in most universities in China. However, the attraction of the course itself is far greater than my dissatisfaction with the teaching methods. Although I didn't get all the excellent results, I passed it smoothly. English is easy to get into CET-4 and CET-6, just like a pony crossing a river. This is not a terrible thing.
After successfully completing the study task, extracurricular reading has become my biggest hobby. In three years, I saved money to drink coffee for others and bought all the books. 0 1 Beijing, 02 Shanghai, I always change the money in my wallet into books in a more substantial schoolbag. Up to now, the three bookshelves at the bedside are filled with all kinds of biological reading materials, which are dubbed by the students as the biological branch of Shanda Library. In order to keep abreast of the development of science and technology, especially biology, various magazines have become my biggest dabbling. The Chinese version of Science and Nature is Hard to Find has been in short supply for three years.
In school, the biggest paradise is the laboratory, even though basic experiments have become the most criticized by science and engineering students. Although I can't completely control the experiment, I strive for change, and it's really a pleasure to see my ideas confirmed or rejected. Being close to the land since childhood and living in the hospital for more than ten years made me quite familiar with the experimental operation itself. Especially in animal experiments, I am often called by my classmates to find a "place to stand a needle" on the ear of a rabbit with pierced ears. In the past three years, more than a dozen experimental courses have achieved excellent results, which often becomes the reason for experimental partners to be lazy, which is also a good memory in the university.
In my spare time, I carry my tent and sleeping bag and go deep into the mountains and rivers in the south of Jinan. Although I don't have the beautiful scenery of Yunnan, I can still find a long-lost and rare peace in the city. Bring a geological hammer and a magnifying glass. Zhang Xia and Shanwang are both good places. Say hello to the creatures of Ordovician, CAMBRIAN and Quaternary. Although it can't reach the molecular level, it is a small study of evolution.
Speaking of evolution, in the spring of 2003, when the SARS cloud hung over Beijing, several friends and I were invited to participate in the discussion on the topic of dinosaur extinction with friends from Nanjing University and Tianjin University. Our view of restoring dinosaur reproductive ecological model has been unanimously affirmed by famous paleontologists Dong Zhiming and Zhen Shuonan. Five days after returning to Jinan from Beijing, SARS isolation began. It was also because of SARS that CCTV's program recording stopped, and our program was "lucky" to be replayed four times. I hope our views can be recognized by more people.
However, I prefer to discuss the birth of life to the extinction of dinosaurs. Here, evolution is not only a biological subject, but also a philosophical proposition. My understanding of evolutionary biology and evolutionary genomics will be developed in the following short article, so I won't go into details here.
Finally, the three-year college life is coming to an end, and the future graduate life is about to begin. For me, the system of Chinese Academy of Sciences is always my only choice. What I need is a pure research atmosphere. Kunming Institute of Zoology is such a place. Whether it is my main direction of animal development or my interest-evolutionary biology, Kunming University has top professors and experimental conditions in China.
