Gu Linbing (1945—), a native of Dehui, Jilin, is an academician of China Academy of Sciences, a physicist and a material scientist.

1965 was admitted to study in department of engineering physics, Tsinghua University. 1970 stayed in school after graduating from college. 197 1 * * Joined China. From March 1973 to July 1975, September 1978 to September 1979, I studied in the graduate class in department of engineering physics, Tsinghua University. 1979 went to study in Aarhus University, Denmark, and 1982 received his doctorate. He used to be a professor, vice president and head of the Department of Physics in Tsinghua University, a visiting scholar at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Tokyo in the United States, and a visiting professor at Tohoku University in Japan.

1999 was elected as an academician of China Academy of Sciences. In March 2000, he served as the president of Tsinghua University Graduate School, and in March 20001,he served as the vice president of Tsinghua University, and concurrently served as the chairman of academic degree evaluation committee and the leader of the leading group for discipline construction. In April 2003, he served as president of Tsinghua University. At present, he is a member of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, convener of physics and astronomy appraisal group, member of National Science and Technology Award Committee, chairman of physics and astronomy teaching steering committee of Ministry of Education, vice chairman of Chinese Physics Society, director of Asia-Pacific Physics Society and chairman of Chinese Stereology Society.

Academician Gu has been devoted to the research of physics and materials science and the cultivation of high-level talents for a long time, and has made many important achievements in the field of condensed matter physics. Published more than 220 academic papers, including more than 200 SCI papers. He has won many awards, such as the He Liang Heli Fund Science and Technology Progress Award, the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, the first prize of the Natural Science Award of China University, the second prize of the Fourth Prize of the Ministry of Education (State Education Commission), the second prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award, the "Seventh Five-Year Work Important Contribution Award" of the State Science and Technology Commission, and the special prize of excellent teachers of Baosteel Education Fund.
