Gaobei Water Control Project is one of the 27 major water conservancy projects started in the State Council in 20 15. With a total investment of 610.54 billion yuan, the Gaopi Water Control Project of Hanjiang River in Tai Po was officially started. Minister of Water Resources, Deputy Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Governor Zhu and Vice Governor attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

This project is the largest single investment water conservancy project in our province since the founding of New China, and it is also one of the 27 major water-saving and water-supply projects of 20 172 deployed by the the State Council executive meeting. It was listed as a key construction project in Several Opinions of the State Council on Supporting the Revitalization and Development of the Former Central Soviet Area such as Gannan.

Hanjiang Gaobei Water Control Project is a comprehensive control project focusing on flood control and water supply, taking into account power generation and shipping. It is a control project in the Hanjiang River Basin, which is combined with Yongding (Mianhuatan) Reservoir for flood regulation and forms a flood control system with downstream dikes.

The maximum dam height of this project is 50m, the normal water level and flood limit water level of the reservoir are 38m, and the design flood level, check flood level and flood control high water level are 47.44m Among them, the main buildings such as sluice, upstream water retaining part of power station, upper lock head of ship lock, fishway and gravity dam connecting the two banks are Grade 2, and the design flood standard is 1 0,000. After the completion, the flood control standard of the south and north dikes of Hanjiang River, Shantou Dawei and other important dikes will be raised from once in 50 years to once in 100. The flood control standard of main dikes such as Shangpengwei, Yibawei and Suxiwei has been raised from once every 30 years to once every 50 years. The scope of flood control protection covers Chaozhou, Shantou and Jieyang in the lower reaches of Hanjiang River and the delta region, with a population of 6,242,900 and cultivated land1906,200 mu.
