After 1970s, Chen Miaohua's physical and mental condition deteriorated sharply, and he couldn't take care of himself at all, so he quit the opera stage.
1988, Yi Sushe performed "The Edge of the Tiger's Mouth" at Liquan Theatre, with Chen Miaohua, whose mental condition improved, as the leading role. The theater was crowded with people, and fans came to watch the play one after another to pay tribute to their favorite famous artists.
In the 1990s, Chen Miaohua once again appeared in the newly-edited classical drama Ode to Women, with more than 20 performances in a row, which caused a sensation in Xi 'an. But after that, Chen Miaohua came out of people's sight again.
In March, 2004, Chen Miaohua took part in the recording of Shaanxi local operas Qin Zhisheng and Our Chen Miaohua. Xiao Yuling, Quan Qiaomin and Li Aiqin, known as the four sisters of Shaanxi Opera with her, took to the stage one by one and "joked" with Chen Miaohua. Her disciples from Pai Cheng also appeared one after another, singing the classic aria of Pai Cheng's art. The audience and the artists on the stage sang the most infectious aria in Shaanxi Opera-"My ancestral home is Hancheng County, Shaanxi Province".
20 1 February1Sunday, at 3: 00 am, the beloved master of Shaanxi Opera died of severe lung infection and multiple organ failure in the First Affiliated Hospital of xi Jiaotong University at the age of 70.
