Why is Shanxi referred to as "Shanxi" or "Jin"?
Jiang Ziya has a daughter named Jiang Yi, who married Zhou Wuwang and gave birth to a son named Yu Ji (Tang Shuyu). Tang Shuyu's brother was later Zhou Chengwang Song Ji.

After Zhou Wuwang's death, young Zhou Chengwang succeeded to the throne, assisted by Zhou Wuwang's younger brother Zhou Gongdan. In eight years, Tang rebelled and sent troops to pacify Tang. In ten years, Tang's land was given to his younger brother, so it was also called.

After Tang Shuyu's death, his son Ji Xie succeeded to the throne. Ji Xie moved the capital to Jinjiang (in Jiangxian County, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province) and changed "Tang" to "Jin". Ji Xie became the marquis of Jin, which was the famous state of Jin in the Spring and Autumn Period. Later, Jin Wengong, one of the five tyrants in the Spring and Autumn Period, appeared.

At its most prosperous time, the territory of Jin State included the whole of Shanxi Province, the eastern and northern Shaanxi Province, the south-central Hebei Province, the western Henan Province, the northwestern Shandong Province and so on.

The nobles of the state of Jin were killed by the Duke of Jin, and the strength of six ministers of the three armed forces became stronger and stronger. Finally, Zhao, Han and Wei carved up the State of Jin and became Zhao, Han and Wei. This is the famous "three tribes divided into Jin", and the Eastern Zhou Dynasty entered the Warring States Period.

During the Qin Dynasty, there were six counties in Shanxi and its surrounding areas, namely Hedong County, Daixian County, Yunzhong County, Shangdang County, Yanmen County and Taiyuan County. The famous battle of Changping is in Shangdang County, and Yanmenguan is in Yanmen County.

During the Han Dynasty, the counties remained basically unchanged, with thirteen counties, which belonged to Bing, Youzhou and Sizhou.

During the Three Kingdoms period, Shanxi belonged to Wei. In the Western Jin Dynasty, Liu Yuan led troops in Zuoguocheng (Lvliang, Shanxi) and later moved to Pingyang (Linfen, Shanxi). During the Sixteen Kingdoms Period, Shaanxi successively had Zhao Qian, Houzhao, Yan Qian, Houqin and other countries.

When the Northern Wei Dynasty was divided into the Eastern Wei Dynasty and the Western Wei Dynasty, Shanxi mainly belonged to the Eastern Wei Dynasty. Later, the Eastern Wei Dynasty was replaced by the Northern Qi Dynasty, the Northern Qi Dynasty was defeated by the Northern Zhou Dynasty, and the Northern Zhou Dynasty was replaced by the Sui Wendi Sui Dynasty. The Sui Dynasty finally defeated Chen Nan and achieved reunification.

During the Sui Dynasty, there were four states in Shaanxi, namely, Bingzhou, Daizhou, Shuozhou and Qiao Zhou. Later, the state was changed to a county, and there were fourteen counties in Shanxi.

Li Yuan, Duke of the Tang Dynasty, founded the Tang Dynasty in Taiyuan. He named Taiyuan the northern capital, and Shanxi became the "land of Longxing" in the Tang Dynasty.

In the Yuan Dynasty, Datong, Pingyang and Taiyuan were three important cities. Shanxi belongs to Zhongshu Province.

In Ming Dynasty, Shanxi was called Shanxi Chengxuan Bureau, which consisted of six prefectures, including Taiyuan Prefecture and Datong Prefecture, and two Zhili States, Qinzhou and Liaozhou.

Like the Ming Dynasty, the Qing Dynasty was still Shanxi Province.

It can be seen that the abbreviation of Shanxi is Jin, which obviously comes from the "Jin State" in the Western Zhou Dynasty and the Spring and Autumn Period, and the name of Jin State comes from the water of Jin.
