Jilin Art College is the only comprehensive art college in Northeast China. The College was born in 1946, the Music Department of Lu Xun College of Literature and Art of Northeastern University, and Jilin Art College was founded in 1958. Since then, the college has merged five art colleges with their own characteristics, including Jilin Culture Cadre School, Jilin Art School, Music and Dance School affiliated to Jilin Song and Dance Theatre, Jilin Art School and Changchun Film Academy affiliated to changchun film studio, and initially formed a comprehensive school-running pattern with complete artistic disciplines.

1978 was upgraded to an undergraduate college, 1993 became a master's degree awarding unit, and 1995 became the first batch of provincial key discipline colleges in Jilin province.

July 20 15 official website shows that there are 659 teaching and administrative staff in the school, including 44 full-time teachers, 240 associate professors or above, and more than one visiting professor and part-time professor at home and abroad. Among these teachers, 7 are entitled to special allowance from the State Council, 1 is a provincial senior expert, 2 are provincial top-notch talents, 6 are provincial experts with outstanding contributions, 5 are provincial teaching masters and 5 are provincial teaching teams.

While cultivating talents for the college, they have successively won a large number of national and provincial art awards: the "Five One Projects Award" of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the highest music award in China-Golden Bell Award, National Art Exhibition Gold Award, China Oil Painting Exhibition Art Award, CCTV Fashion Competition Gold Award, International Rachmaninov Competition Best Opera Singing Award, the first "Good Voice of China" champion, Chinese Drama Award Short Play Award, and Li Tao Cup.
