1. Open the article, click Insert, select Reference from the drop-down menu, and then click Footnotes and Endnotes. 2. Footnotes and endnotes settings box will pop up, and click the symbol to open it. 3. In the symbol box that pops up, select the symbol to be entered, generally insert an asterisk, and click OK. 4. After selecting the symbol, it will be displayed in the custom tag, and then click the Insert button. 5. The following figure shows the effect after inserting a symbol in front of the communication author.
