Why is it easy to die suddenly when running a marathon?
Marathon is a sport that challenges the limits of human beings. In recent years, the tragedy of sudden death in marathon has occurred from time to time, making marathon one of the sports with the highest mortality rate. In the Guangzhou Marathon the day before yesterday, two male runners who participated in the mini-run and 10 km run were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment because of syncope, respiratory and cardiac arrest.

According to the statistics of international sports organizations, one out of every 50,000 marathon runners will die of a heart attack (including those who died suddenly within 24 hours after the race). Some experts pointed out that marathon exercise is particularly intense and takes a long time, which is easy to induce potential heart and brain diseases or genetic diseases leading to sudden death. In the routine physical examination, these potential and hereditary diseases are difficult to find, and nothing will happen under ordinary exercise, but the marathon race, because of its high intensity, leads to illness. In the New York Marathon on June 5438+065438+ 10, 2009, American world champion Shea fell to the ground less than 10 km from the finish line. In the Detroit Marathon of the same year, three runners died within 16 minutes. Two of them died of a sudden heart attack and one died of brain damage caused by fainting. In terms of domestic events, in the 2004 Beijing Marathon, Liu Hongbin, a student from the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Beijing Jiaotong University, and a retired worker died suddenly.

Because marathon is a high-risk sport, Guangzhou Marathon is fully prepared for medical security. Tang Xiaoping, director of the Medical Security Department of the Organizing Committee and deputy director of the Guangzhou Municipal Health Bureau, revealed that during the preparatory period, Ma Guang made a lot of medical security and emergency measures, arranged 20 ambulances, more than 250 medical staff, 380 medical volunteers and 17 medical points, and established a perfect medical service security system with local nearby hospitals. At the same time, emergency plans have been made and sufficient manpower and material resources have been prepared to deal with emergencies.

Nevertheless, accidents are inevitable because most of the players are non-professional athletes and have insufficient understanding of the sport. A total of 15 17 people in Maguang experienced dizziness, discomfort and cramps. Finally, through timely treatment by the medical team, most of them returned to normal.

Wang Anli: Head of Sports Rehabilitation Department, Beijing Sport University.

"The incidence of sudden death is very low. Marathon is a public activity. In fact, most people should not worry about sudden death caused by running. Often the underlying disease is not discovered, but sudden death is induced when you want to run. Sudden death is by no means caused by running. " Professor Wang firmly and slowly "teaches" Tencent sports reporters word by word. "In another case, in fact, you have to adapt to running and improve your physical fitness in the process of running slowly. This is also a way to improve your physical function."
