Sanbai is located in the southeast border of Anyuan County, Jiangxi Province, and is the general name of the peaks in the southeast border of Anyuan County. Xunwu County is adjacent to the east, spanning Lianjiang, Fengshan, Zhengang and Xinyuan. Located at the junction of Jiangxi, Guangdong and Fujian provinces, it belongs to the ecotone of the northern slope of the eastern Wuyishan Mountains, and is the watershed of the Gongjiang River in the Yangtze River system and the Dongjiang River in the Pearl River system. Sanbai is the birthplace of Dongjiang River, the source of drinking water for Hong Kong compatriots, and the only tourist attraction in China that has special significance for Hong Kong compatriots to think of drinking water.

Sanbaishan Mountain was discovered in the mid-1980s and was listed as a county-level nature reserve by Anyuan County People's Government on 1985. 1993 was approved as a national forest park by the Ministry of Forestry in May; 1995 was listed as a provincial key scenic spot by Jiangxi provincial people's government in July; In June 2000, it was named as "the first batch of national mother river protection action" ecological education demonstration base by the national mother river protection leading group; In May 2002, it was approved by the State Council (Guo Han [2002] No.40) as the fourth batch of national key scenic spots.
