About the author:
Osamu Dazai (1909— 1948), whose real name is Hideyoshima, was born in a well-known gentry family in Jin Mu-CHO, Beijingguang County, Aomori Prefecture. Although his father was a member of the House of Lords, Osamu Dazai never enjoyed all the benefits of wealth or power. All his life, he aspired to literature, participated in the left-wing movement, drank heavily and died, and was in the contradiction between hope and regret. During his short life of 39 years, he created more than 50 works, including Shame on the Earth and Sunset. He committed suicide five times, and the last time was in 1948. He and his admiring female readers threw themselves into the river in Sanying Yuchuan, Tokyo, ending his life journey.
