Liu dependency in the Western Han Dynasty (Liu dependency in the late Eastern Han Dynasty)
Liu dependency in the Western Han Dynasty (Liu dependency in the late Eastern Han Dynasty)

At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, there was a fierce competition in the Central Plains, which finally formed a tripartite confrontation pattern in Wei Shuwu. For the governors in the last years of the Eastern Han Dynasty, they can be divided into two types, one is the descendants of the Han Dynasty, and the other is the princes named Liu, such as Liu Bei, Liu Biao, Ada and Liu Zhang. Second, non-Han descendants, such as Cao Cao, Yuan Shao, Yuan Shu, Lu Bu, Ma Chao, Han Sui, Zhang Xiu and Gongsun Zan.

It is worth noting that although the Han Dynasty declined, in the eyes of many historians, it was the heyday and development period of Liu. After the establishment of the Western Han Dynasty by Emperor Gaozu Liu Bang, surnames were enfeoffed everywhere. In the early Western Han Dynasty, there were more than 30 emperors and more than 400 marquis. They made their own living and became aristocratic families everywhere. In this case, there should be more descendants of the Han Dynasty at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. So, the question is, besides Liu Bei, Liu Biao and Liu Zhang, who were the princes named Liu in the last years of the Eastern Han Dynasty?

Yanzhou Secretariat: Liu Dai

Liu Dai (? -192), a native of Zigong Mountain, a Muping native of Donglai (now the northwest of Fushan Mountain, Shandong Province), a clansman of the Han family, a son of Lu You. Liu Dai's uncle, Liu Chong, served as Qiu in the Eastern Han Dynasty. During the Three Kingdoms period at the end of the Han Dynasty, Qiu was one of the three fairs, and his position was very prominent. On this basis, Liu Dai himself served as an assistant in the Han Dynasty and was the secretariat of Yanzhou. In the first month of A.D. 190 (the first year of Chuping), many people all over the country began to crusade against Dong Zhuo, including Liu Dai, the secretariat of Yanzhou.

Later, Liu Dai married Yuan Shao and Gongsun Zan, Yuan Shao let his family live in Liu Dai's residence, and Gongsun Zan also sent his men to help Liu Dai deal with Fan Fang's army. In the third year of Chuping (192), Qingzhou Yellow Scarf Army attacked Yanzhou, and Liu Dai, the secretariat of Yanzhou, personally led the army to battle, and the result was defeated and died. It is worth noting that after Liu Dai died in battle, his men Bao Xin and others welcomed Cao Cao into Yanzhou. For Cao Cao, this means that he has finally gained a firm foothold and has an important position in competing for the world.

Yangzhou pastoral: Liu You

Liu You (156- 197), with clear pronunciation and mellow voice. Donglai Mu Ping (now Mu Ping) was born. Liu You was the nephew of Liu Chong, the son of Qiu, after the funeral of King Hui. So in my opinion, Liu You, a shepherd in Yangzhou, and Liu Dai, a secretariat in Yanzhou, are cousins. If both can develop and grow in the last years of the Eastern Han Dynasty, they will undoubtedly become a force to be reckoned with. Of course, the final result is that in the process of competing for the Central Plains, both Liu You and Liu Dai were out early.

Lu You was first selected as Lian Xiao and awarded a doctorate. When he was a county magistrate, Liu You abandoned his official position because he refused to ask the county magistrate for help, indicating that this person was dishonest. Later, Liu You was requisitioned by the Eastern Han Dynasty court as a common family, but he took refuge in Huaipu because of the war. In the first year of Xingping (194), he was appointed as the secretariat of Yangzhou. After becoming the secretariat of Yangzhou, Liu You fought with Yuan Shu and Sun Ce successively, and was once named as the general of Yangzhou animal husbandry and Zhenwu by the court, but was finally defeated by Dantu.

In this regard, in my opinion, it is precisely because of Liu You's defeat that Yuan Shu and Sun Ce laid a good foundation for their debut. If Liu You has been occupying Yangzhou, Yuan Shu and Sun Ce will naturally have no place. Since then, Liu You, a shepherd in Yangzhou, died at the age of 42. The death of Liu You, a shepherd in Yangzhou, prompted Yangzhou to be occupied successively by Yuan Shu, Sun Ce and Sun Quan. For Wu Dong, Yangzhou can be said to be his core area.

Youzhou Animal Husbandry: Liu Yu

Liu Wei (? -193), the word "Ann. Donghai County (now Tancheng, Shandong Province) is a native of Tanxian County. Han clan, son of Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of Han Dynasty, Queen Qiang of Donghai Palace. As a descendant of the Han Dynasty, Liu Yu once served as the secretariat of Youzhou, the official minister and Zong Zheng. Especially during the period of governing Youzhou, Liu Yu achieved good results and even gained a high reputation among the people. In the fifth year of Zhong Ping (188), Liu Yu became a youzhou shepherd. Accumulate with fu, seal Hou. During the Three Kingdoms period at the end of the Han Dynasty, Fu's position was even higher than that of the general, that is, officially speaking, Youzhou Pastoral was named Fu, which can be said to be under one person and under ten thousand people.

Of course, because of guarding Youzhou, Liu Yu naturally could not go to the Eastern Han Dynasty court. In the face of northern nomadic people such as Wu Huan and other forces, Liu Yu, a herder in Youzhou, advocates reconciliation. But his subordinate, Gongsun Zan, was tough, which caused the contradiction between them. In the battle, Gongsun Zan defeated Youzhou Pastoral and killed Liu, a vassal. After getting rid of Liu Yu, Gongsun Zan captured Youzhou and had a fierce contest with Yuan Shao, a priest in Jizhou.

Cao Cao's Ministry: Liu Dai.

For Cao Cao, he had a man named Liu Dai, who had the same name as Liu Dai, the secretariat of Yanzhou. Liu Dai, the Ministry of Cao Cao, was born in Gongshan, Guo Pei (now northwest of Suixi, Anhui). Cao Cao is a mediocrity, and Liu Dai is a mediocrity. Judging from the place of birth, Liu Dai is probably also a descendant of the Han Dynasty, but just like Liu Bei, he was born with a poor family. So Liu Dai chose to follow Cao Cao instead of his own regime. In December of the fourth year of Jian 'an (AD 199), Cao Cao sent Liu Dai and Zhong Wang to attack Liu Bei in Xuzhou, and suffered a heavy defeat.

Subrina Liu

Ye Liu (? -234), Zi Ziyang, born in Chengde, Huainan, is a descendant of Ada, the son of Liu Xiu and the son of Emperor Guangwu. For Liu Ye, he is also a descendant of the Han Dynasty. However, unlike Liu Bei, Liu Biao, Ada and Liu Zhang, Ye Liu chose to assist Cao Cao. Ye Liu served as general manager, chief bookkeeper, history of the Long March and leader in Cao Cao's life, and served as a regular attendant and assistant of Sanshui in Wei Wendi's Cao Pi era. Although Ye Liu's position is not high, he has always been one of the confidants of Cao Cao and Cao Pi.

In the first year of Taihe (227), after the death of Cao Pi, Emperor Wen of Wei, Cao Cao succeeded to the throne, and Liu Ren had 300 households. In the sixth year of Taihe (232), due to illness, Ye Liu was appointed as a doctor of Taizhong, and soon became a great hero. Two years later, Ye Liu was re-appointed as a doctor in Taichung and died soon after. In this regard, in my opinion, this shows that Cao is undoubtedly wooing descendants of Han people from all over the world to enhance his strength. Correspondingly, although Liu Bei was under the banner of helping the Han family, he failed to win the support of many descendants of the Han family because of his relatively weak strength.
