Introduction of Master Huineng of Six Ancestors
Master Huineng (638 -7 13) was born in Xinzhou, Lingnan (now Xinxing County, Guangdong Province) in the Tang Dynasty. The founder of Southern Zen Buddhism, the last Buddha in China, was taught by Hong Ren, the fifth ancestor of Huangmei, and inherited the Dongshan method. He is the sixth ancestor of Zen, and is called the sixth ancestor of Zen in the world. Tang Zhongzong chased the great Zen master. There are six ancestors' Tanjing, which has been handed down all over the world. He is one of the most influential Buddhist monks in the history of China. The real body of Zen master Huineng is enshrined in Zhaoling Tower of Nanhua Temple in Shaoguan, Guangdong.
