Lingyun Temple was built from Kaiyuan to Zhenyuan, and the name of the Buddha naturally includes the name of Lingyun Temple. The giant Buddha, also known as "Lingshan", should be related to the fact that Lingyun Mountain was called "Lingshan" at that time.
Lingyun Mountain is also called Lingshan. It may come from the turtle spirit of Shu Wang Ming Kai. Volume 86 of Taiping Town Records records: "Fairy Snow Mountain is ten miles northeast of the county." "Zhou Tu" said: "There are many miscellaneous trees at the peak of Lingshan. Yesterday, the king of the Kingdom of Shu, Bieling, came here, hence the name Lingshan. "
Volume 185 of "Jade Emperor Jisheng" records: "Lingshan, Fairy Cave, located on the Song River more than ten miles east of the house, has the Guiling Temple of the ancient Emperor Cong." It is proved that Lingshan in Jianzhong County is named after turtle spirit.
Lingyun Mountain, where Leshan Giant Buddha is located, is located at the intersection of Qingyi River and Minjiang River, and is also closely related to Master Roshi. Volume 33 of Notes on Water Classics and Rivers records Nan 'an that "the county governs Tsing Yi and Jiang Hui and takes two waters." . In other words, King Shu is an enlightened ruler. "and" Master Roshi acceded to the throne,No. Ming Di ",indicating that Master Roshi had settled in Leshan for a period of time. Now this street under Lingyun Mountain is also called "Nose Street". Nose is the official festival of "turtle", and turtle is the spirit of turtle.
Therefore, it is very likely that Lingyun Mountain, like the fairy snow mountain in the room, was called "Lingshan" because the turtle spirit boarded or built the turtle spirit temple, and it has been used until the Tang Dynasty.
In addition, Lingshan may be named after Buddhism. Lingyun Mountain is also called Tsing Yi Mountain because of Qingyi River. In the Song Dynasty, Fan Chengda said in Wu Luchuan: Crossing the river to swim in Lingyun, on the other side of the city, the mountain is not very high, and there is a top, so it is also called Jiuding, and it was formerly called Tsing Yi Mountain.
However, with the establishment of Lingyun Temple during the Kaiyuan period, there were more and more monks on the mountain, and Buddhism flourished unprecedentedly. In this case, it is likely that Ling Yunshan is called by the name of the mountain in the Buddhist scriptures. The famous mountain related to Buddhism is called "Zhao Lingshan", and Brahma Party rose in the Zhou Dynasty, referred to as "Lingshan".
"Five Lantern Festival Yuan Sakyamuni Buddha" said: "The Buddha presented flowers at the Lingshan meeting." Lingshan is the place where Sakyamuni Buddha lives. Therefore, the monks in Lingyun Temple dug a giant Buddha because of Lingyun Mountain, and the mountain name related to the giant Buddha is Lingyun Mountain.

Fifty-nine volumes of Jiaqing's Sichuan Tongzhi Jinshi are called "Zhaoling Mountain Monument" in Leshan County, Jiading Prefecture, indicating that Leshan had a mountain named Lingshan in the Tang Dynasty. From the development of Leshan Buddhism, Lingyun Mountain is unique.
In the 19th year of Zhenyuan, Wei Gao wrote "The Great Buddha statue of Lingyun Temple in Jiazhou", in which he called it "The Stone Statue of Lingyun Temple". It seems that the giant Buddha has been named "the giant Buddha of Lingyun Temple".
In the Song Dynasty, the giant Buddha was also called "Lingyun Elephant". Lu You wrote a poem about Buddha, entitled "The Great Statue of Spiritual Luck", which was clearly written. Wang Xiangzhi's Ji Sheng in the Ground 146 records: "Foer Spring is behind Lingyun Elephant Ear." This name is also used.
In the Ming Dynasty, the giant Buddha was renamed as "Lingyun Giant Buddha" instead of "Elephant". It is a good proof that Sun Zhenglan's couplet entitled "Lingyun Buddha Peak" is recorded in the Ming Wanli Jiading County Records.
In the long years of 1000, Leshan Giant Buddha is still inevitably damaged by various kinds, both natural and man-made. Every dynasty has its maintenance. For hundreds of years since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the giant Buddha has been eroded by natural wind and rain, so that the Buddha's body is riddled with holes and unrecognizable.
