Yuan Yu 190 1 was born in Changzhou, Jiangsu province. 1926, Yuan and Mr. Lin Fengmian jointly held an exhibition of paintings, and her name was included in Biography of National Painters published by Taiwan Province Commercial Press.

1930, during Yuan Liufa's stay, he became friends with Ye Nan, son of Ye Chulun, then chairman of Jiangsu provincial government.
