This work tells the subtle relationship between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party when the Xi Incident broke out. Ran Hua, an underground party about to graduate from the military academy, was exposed by his classmate Ning Pengfei, which caused great disaster. His fiancee, Shi Li, died to save Ran Hua. In desperation, she had to go up the mountain and become an outlaw with Ran Hua's brother, Ranguo. After the outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Ran Hua and Ning Pengfei bridged their differences and joined hands in resisting Japan.
However, after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Ran Hua and Ning Pengfei separated because of their different positions, and Xin Ran, Ning Pengfei's girlfriend and Ran Hua's sister, was also killed in the civil war. The whole country was basically liberated, and Ran Hua led the Pioneer Group into Sichuan and Chongqing, which liberated the southwest. Ning Pengfei was unwilling to fail and secretly launched an explosion plan in Chongqing.
