Why is the Bandeng Buddha in the Northern Wei Dynasty so small?
The reason why the bench Buddha in the Northern Wei Dynasty was small was mainly for the convenience of carrying. During the war, temples were destroyed, and monks could not deviate from their religion again in order to adhere to Buddhist practice. Therefore, they need a portable Buddha statue so that they can learn Buddhism on the spot no matter where they live. This kind of small and portable reclining Buddha came into being, and the bronze Buddha statue was a very precious metal in ancient times, so it was generally small in size. From Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties to Sui and Tang Dynasties, a large number of small bronze Buddha statues appeared, most of which had four-legged platforms shaped like benches, so they were called "bench Buddha".
