On the evening of March 17, 2003, Sun Zhigang, a young man from Hubei who worked in a company in Guangzhou, was sent to Guangzhou by the police on his way to an Internet cafe (that is, an outsider without an ID card, temporary residence permit or employment permit). The next day, Sun Zhigang was sent to a shelter for prisoners by the shelter. Here, Sun Zhigang was brutally beaten by staff and other prisoners and died in this treatment station on March 20th. This incident is called "Sun Zhigang Incident".
