Mr. Vance was born in a scholarly family. Under the guidance of his father, Mr. Si, he dabbled in Han and Wei steles since childhood, especially in painting and calligraphy, and devoted himself to the research and creation of peony, plum blossom and landscape painting for decades. His works are fresh in style, novel in composition, old and mellow in pen and ink, blending poetry and books, learning from predecessors, independent of tradition and innovative. He is especially good at peony, which is characterized by rigorous structure, dense density, vivid charm, diverse shapes, beautiful flowers, branches and leaves, and exquisite craftsmanship. His works have been included in dozens of classic works such as Calligraphy Exhibition of Famous Contemporary Artists in China, China Painter, China Painting and Celebration of 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China. It is also collected by China Palace Museum, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Great Hall of the People and China Calligraphers Collection Association. Calligraphy has been engraved in Wuhan, Xi, Wang Mu, Gansu Beilin and Longshan Scenic Area. 1993 won the silver prize in the painting and calligraphy exhibition of the 4th World Conference on Women; 1997 won the national "Qu Yuan Cup" silver award; In 2000, he won the gold medal of "Millennium Cup" and was awarded the honorary title of "World Chinese Artist" by China Ministry of Culture and China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. In August, 2009, a personal painting and calligraphy exhibition celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China was held in China People's Revolutionary Military Museum.
