1987, Maehara entered the "Panasonic School of Politics and Economics" and became the eighth student. 199 1 year, 28-year-old Seiji Maehara became the youngest member of parliament in Kyoto prefecture. 1993 was elected as a member of the new party of Japan. Seiji Maehara (まぇはらせぃじ) served as a representative of the Democratic Party from September 2005 to March 2006, but was forced to resign because of the "fake mail incident". He used to be the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in Yukio Hatoyama's cabinet, and he continued this position in Naoto Kan's first cabinet. In Naoto Kan's second cabinet, Seiji Maehara was able to take over the post of foreign minister because former foreign minister Katsuya Okada became the secretary-general of the Democratic Party and left the cabinet.
