The Life of Characters in Wang Fuxiong's Works
1920 When Wang Fuxiong was 7 years old, he was studying in a primary school in the village. Four years later, I transferred to the second grade of Pingdu High School in Lanxi County. 1926 was admitted to dongyang county middle school, with simple style of study and good teaching conditions for teachers.

His research is very helpful. The following autumn, my father worked as an English teacher in Zhejiang No.8 Middle School (now Quzhou Middle School), and Wang Fuxiong accompanied him to study in the school. The total score of each semester is in the top three in the class.

1929 In the summer, Wang Fuxiong was admitted to the famous Zhejiang Provincial High School (later renamed Hangzhou High School). After entering the school, he signed up for a liberal arts class. At school, I read a lot of Chinese and foreign literary masterpieces, and under the careful guidance of Chinese and English teachers, I began to make a preliminary attempt to create new poems and novels. But at this time, he was deeply moved by two things: first, the high school biology textbook edited by Professor Marco is rich in content, easy to understand and particularly fascinating to read; Second, the teachers who taught biology at that time were very lively and interesting. After a period of careful consideration, he finally took exploring the mysteries of life as his lifelong pursuit.

1932, Wang Fuxiong was admitted to the biology department of Tsinghua University and graduated in September 1936. He was admitted as a graduate student of Professor Li Jidong, a famous plant ecologist, and engaged in the study of individual ecology of Pinus elliottii. 1937 After the July 7th Incident, Beiping fell and Tsinghua was forced to move south. Going south with the school, I resumed my studies at Tsinghua University Research Institute in Kunming, Yunnan on 1939. On the recommendation of Li Jidong, he continued to study for a master's degree under the guidance of Professor Zhang Jingyue. After more than two years' efforts, I finally successfully completed the study on the life history of Taxodium Iverson and successfully passed the defense of my master's thesis.

194 1 After graduation, Wang Fuxiong was employed by Professor Tang Peisong from the Department of Plant Physiology, Tsinghua University Agricultural Research Institute to study barley polyploid cytology. During the Anti-Japanese War, he lived in poverty and had poor equipment, but he did not give up his painstaking research on botany. At that time, I cooperated with Luo Shiwei to study the dynamic embryo culture of Pinus yunnanensis and Taxodium yunnanense, and achieved initial results. At the same time, a large number of plant pollen germination and culture experiments have been completed, and the experimental system of lotus root pollen germination has been initially established. These works laid a good foundation for his lifelong career-palynology research.

1In May, 943, Wang Fuxiong, who just turned 30, went to the United States for further study to pursue a doctorate. His tutor is Professor Bouchholtz, a famous American plant embryologist. At first, he participated in the experimental course of plant morphology at the University of Illinois with his tutor, and then he devoted himself to the research of his doctoral thesis "Maize Hybridization and Autologous Embryo Development". 1June, 946, he completed his studies with honors and obtained a doctorate in philosophy. Wang Fuxiong was elected as a member of the Honorary Society of Sigma Biologists, the Honorary Society of Sigma Xi Scientists and the American Botanical Society.

Shortly after receiving his Ph.D., he resolutely decided to return to China. Repeated detention by his tutor and generous living conditions abroad did not shake his determination.

1September, 946, after returning to China, Wang Fuxiong was employed by the Institute of Botany of Shanghai Academia Sinica as an associate researcher, engaged in plant morphology research. At the beginning of 1948, at the invitation of Professor Li Huilin, director of the Department of Botany of Taiwan Province Provincial University, he went to the Department of Botany of Taiwan Province Provincial University as a visiting professor with Professor Yin Hongzhang. Later, due to the turmoil, he returned to Shanghai in June of that year.

People's Republic of China (PRC) (PRC) has just been established, and Wang Fuxiong was transferred to the Institute of Experimental Biology of China Academy of Sciences as a researcher and secretary. 195 1 In May, his family moved from Shanghai to Beijing and worked as a researcher at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (1953 was renamed the Institute of Botany). He devoted himself to the construction of the first plant morphology laboratory in People's Republic of China (PRC) with great enthusiasm, and made modern palynology research as the primary scientific research task of the laboratory. In the early 1960s, in order to adapt to the development of the discipline, Wang Fuxiong led students to open up a new field of experimental embryology. The ten-year catastrophe of the "Cultural Revolution" destroyed both body and mind, but it still failed to shake his perseverance and determination to devote himself to the cause of science. As soon as the Cultural Revolution ended, he immediately devoted himself to scientific research with full enthusiasm and selfless spirit. As he himself said: "There is no smooth road to success in scientific research. Only by persisting in long-term efforts, constantly advancing and participating in overcoming one difficulty after another can we achieve the final victory. " On the one hand, he instructed students to devote themselves to studying the embryonic development of gymnosperms unique to China; On the other hand, actively organize and lead the new topic of "phylogeny of gymnosperms". This project is listed as the key theoretical topic of China Academy of Sciences and National Natural Science Foundation. In recent years, many important scientific research achievements have been achieved through the cooperation of multidisciplinary professionals in the Institute, among which the embryology and anatomy of gymnosperms won the first prize of the Scientific and Technological Achievement Award of China Academy of Sciences.

In 1980s, Wang Fuxiong went to Germany, France, the United States, Australia and Japan to attend various international academic conferences and visit. 65438-0986 was invited to participate in the 3rd International Symposium on Phylogenesis of Gymnosperms, and gave an academic report on "Studies on Gymnosperms Endemic to Taxodium in China", which aroused great interest from international colleagues. 1987, at 14 international botany congress, Wang Fuxiong served as honorary vice chairman and won the honorary medal awarded by the congress.

1980 was elected as an academician of China Academy of Sciences; He is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Biology Department. 1983 ~ 1988 served as the vice chairman of botanical society of china, and 1988 was elected as the chairman. He is also the editor-in-chief of Acta Botanica, Acta Botanica of China (English Edition) and Dictionary of Botanical Terms. He actively advocated the research of plant reproductive biology and served as the director of the first professional Committee of plant reproductive biology.

Over the past half century, Wang Fuxiong has published more than one academic paper 100, and translated 10.
