Deng Xiaoyu was born in a ceramic family, and his grandfather was Deng Bishan, one of the Eight Friends of Zhushan. Influenced by his childhood, he has a strong interest in ceramic art. Before his death, he was a Jingdezhen ceramic artist, a painter of the Municipal Painting and Calligraphy Institute, a representative of the Municipal People's Congress, and a director of the Association of Old Artists in the Ceramic Art World. He is especially good at pastels, imitating the brushwork and techniques of Cheng Yiting, a famous flower-and-bird porcelain painter in Jingdezhen, and won the exquisite works of Lingnan School. The paintings are rich in materials, unique in techniques, colorful, unique in form and spirit. It enjoys a high reputation in China ceramic art world.
