China Academy of Fine Arts is a high-level and multidisciplinary college with a long history in China, which was jointly established by the Ministry of Culture and Zhejiang Province. It is the only famous art college in China with a national key discipline of fine arts. It was founded by Mr Cai Yuanpei in 1928. Shanghai Design Institute of China Academy of Fine Arts (located in Zhangjiang Campus of China Academy of Fine Arts) is a graduate and undergraduate teaching institution directly under China Academy of Fine Arts.

Shanghai Design Institute is located in Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park, Pudong, Shanghai. The environment of the college is fresh and beautiful. Now it covers an area of about 40 mu, with a building area of 1.8 million square meters.

The college was founded in 1997, and the mode of running a school under the leadership of the board of directors is the president responsibility system. The School of Design and Art inherits the 80-year excellent tradition of running a school of China Academy of Fine Arts, and makes full use of Shanghai's geographical position and social and environmental advantages in the country. Students' works have won awards frequently in various international and domestic design competitions. There are six professional directions: visual communication design, architectural and environmental art design, dyeing and weaving clothing design, industrial design, multimedia image design and public art. Academic education involves master's and undergraduate education, with undergraduate education as the main one.

Shanghai Institute of Design and Art of China Academy of Fine Arts is a secondary college of China Academy of Fine Arts.

China Academy of Fine Arts was originally a key art college directly under the Ministry of Culture. Its predecessor was "National Academy of Fine Arts" and "Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts", which was founded by the famous educator Mr. Cai Yuanpei on 1928. At present, it is the only national key discipline institution of fine arts in China, which is jointly established by the central and local governments and mainly managed by local governments.

From 65438 to 0994, China Academy of Fine Arts began to prepare to open a design school in Shanghai.

1996 Approved by the Ministry of Culture, the Shanghai Teaching Practice Base of China Academy of Fine Arts was established to conduct undergraduate teaching.

Educational experimental school.

At the beginning of 1997, it was renamed as Shanghai Teaching Base of China Academy of Fine Arts with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1September, 1997, with the approval of the Ministry of Culture, Shanghai Design Art Branch of China Academy of Fine Arts was established.

At the beginning of 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Culture, a new school-running form and mechanism was implemented, namely, the establishment of state-owned institutions of higher learning.

The dean responsibility system under the leadership of the board of directors was determined by the Ministry of Culture as a pilot reform of national art colleges.
