G.E.M.'s father is named Deng Yu Ming. Deng, a Hong Kong native, founded a company and is a successful businessman. G.E.M. was born into a musical family, and his father Deng, his mother and his family all had an indissoluble bond with music.

G.E.M.'s mother graduated from the vocal music department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Her grandmother teaches singing, her uncle plays the violin and her grandfather plays the saxophone in the orchestra. Influenced by his family, G.E.M. loved music and liked singing since childhood.
