In the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union, Mao volunteered to join the army to the front, and Mao Anqing actively participated in activities such as digging trenches and transporting the wounded. During his study in the Soviet Union, he used the name Yang Yongshou. 1947, Mao Anqing returned to China and recuperated in Dalian. He, his wife, Shao Hua, and his son, Mao Xinyu, took the Long March many times, went to old revolutionary areas, factories and rural areas for investigation, helped out-of-school children in various forms, and supported the establishment of a number of patriotic education bases for young people.
