Pingyuan county is located in the middle of Dezhou city. It has jurisdiction over 8 towns, 1 township and 3 streets, with a total area of 1047 square kilometers and a population of 420,000. Pingyuan county has a long history. Liu Bei was a plain county magistrate in the Three Kingdoms period. The famous story of Liu Guan and Zhang Taoyuan's three sworn relationships happened here. Up to now, there are Longmen Stone Carvings, Wenchang Pavilion, Thousand Pagodas and other cultural relics in the territory, which have nurtured a large number of outstanding talents, such as Guan Ju, a fortune teller in the Three Kingdoms period, Dong, a poet in the Qing Dynasty, and Zhang Hongren, a contemporary mathematician and philosopher.
Pingyuan County is rich in tourism resources, and still retains a number of historical sites such as Longmen Stone Carving, Thousand Pagodas, Wenchang Pavilion, Rosen Temple Site, and Qiulonghuai.
