Hechuan District is a municipal district under the jurisdiction of Chongqing, located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and the northwest of Chongqing. Hechuan District is the six major satellite cities in Chongqing and an important strategic fulcrum city in Chongqing metropolitan area. Located in the Third Ring Road of Chongqing, adjacent to Liangjiang New District. It is the first stop of China-Europe train (Chongqing) entering Chongqing, located in the heart of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone. By 2020, the whole region will cover an area of 2,344.07 square kilometers, governing 7 sub-district offices and 23 towns.
County jurisdiction, referred to as "District" for short, was a quasi-administrative area that existed in Chinese mainland before 1990. It belongs to the township administrative area. The dispatched office of the county government in the area is called the district office, but its administrative status is higher than that of the township (formerly small township, stock level) and it is between the county and the township.
