Chang Tongmao, a native of Gongxian County, Henan Province, is a correspondent of 44th Division of Volunteer Army 15 Army/2nd Company of KLOC-0/30 Regiment, and a member of the Communist Youth League of China. 195 1 07 May 17, during the Dashuidong battle in the second stage of the Fifth Campaign to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, 130 regiment accepted the Dashuidong interspersed task and the troops moved forward separately.
When the second company advanced to the edge of Dashuidong forest, it met the enemy and started hand-to-hand combat. Chang Tongmao is brave and good at fighting. He has rushed into enemy lines four times, captured five bunkers in succession, annihilated more than 30 people, captured seven enemies and seized all kinds of guns 12. When he lost contact with his company, he took the initiative to organize scattered personnel to stop and defeat the enemy.

After the battle, Chang Tongmao risked his life to go back and forth several times. One man made four meritorious deeds in saving lives, fighting against the enemy, bombing bunkers, and capturing American troops alive, and was highly praised by the whole regiment. He praised the young soldier, who was only 17 years old, for "bravely breaking into the enemy lines like nobody's business, and making four outstanding achievements by one person, which is worthy of being a model for the whole regiment to fight".
In recognition of Chang Tongmao's heroic deeds, the leading organs of the Volunteers awarded him special merits and the honorary title of "Brave Hero".
