In his spare time, Frye always likes to make motorcycle suspension systems. So, he joined the R&D department of Benetton Team in witney, where he participated in the research and development of active suspension system, and the supervisor was Pat Symonds. At that time, former Williams team engineer david brown came to McLaren, Steve Haram was an engineer in hakkinen, and Tim Goss had taken over his original test team engineer, so Frye lost his position.
