1955 Sichuan Tibetan Autonomous Region was changed to Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and the People's Committee of the Autonomous Prefecture was stationed in Brush Temple.

1956 the original office of the people's government of Xizang Autonomous Region, Sichuan province (original site) was changed to Marcand county. Chuojia Management Committee changed to Chuojia County, and the resident moved to Guanyin Bridge. Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture governs 12 counties.

1958, Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture moved from Brush Temple to Marcand County. Rangtang County (located in Nanmuda) was established by Rangtang Management Committee. Revocation of Maoxian and Wenchuan counties. Nanping County was revoked and merged into Songpan County. Dajin County was renamed Jinchuan County. Chuojia county was abolished and merged into Jinchuan and Rangtang counties. Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture governs 9 counties, 1 autonomous county.

1963, restore Nanping (in Nanping), Wenchuan (in Weizhou Town) and Lixian (in Zagunao); Mao Wen Qiang Autonomous County moved from Weizhou Town to Fengyi Town. Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture governs 12 county and 1 autonomous county.

1987, Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture was renamed Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture.
