Lingqiu is located in the Loess Plateau. It is composed of 85.8% rocky mountain areas, 8% hills and 6.2% Pingchuan, and is known as "a nine-point mountain river and a field". There are more than 500 peaks in the territory, including 55 with an altitude of 1 500 meters and 3 with an altitude of 2000 meters. The central and eastern peaks belong to Taihang Mountain, while the western and northern peaks belong to the southern extension of Hengshan Mountain. The highest elevation is 2,234m, which is the highest among the peaks, and the lowest elevation is 558m, which is located at the exit of Ranzhuang River in Huata Village, Duyu Township.

Lingqiu is located in the northeast of Shanxi Province and the southeast corner of Datong City. Its geographical coordinates are11353' ~11433' and 39 3 1' ~ 39 38' north latitude. It borders Laiyuan and Yuxian in Hebei Province in the east, Fan Shi and Hunyuan in the west, Fuping in Hebei Province in the south and Guangling in the north. The county is 84 kilometers long from north to south and 66 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of 2,732 square kilometers.
