Wuyuan people don't like to simply name the bridge after the land name since ancient times. Almost all ancient bridges have beautiful meanings. Rainbow Bridge is no exception. Many people gave her different names, and none of them were recognized by the villagers. The name of the bridge is almost finished, and the last few tiles are sealed. In the evening, a bright rainbow appears behind the mountain in the west, and the sunset is reflected in the water through the clouds, forming a beautiful landscape painting. At that time, Hu Jixiang and Hu saw this scene and thought it was a good sign. They immediately let the villagers set off firecrackers to celebrate. In Tsinghua people's mind, the rainbow is a symbol of auspiciousness and beauty. Almost everyone thinks that the name of this bridge is the most appropriate, and it has been called today. In order to commemorate the two ancestors, later generations set up a shrine in Zhongting to show that they will never forget. On the right is the throne of the fundraising monk Hu Jixiang, on the left is the throne of the founding head of state Hu, and in the middle is the throne. Why did Yu Wang's memorial tablet stand here? The local people think that Yu Wang is a narcissus from Zhenshui and the ancestor of Hu family. With him, he can control floods and protect ancient bridges.

This bridge is not only beautiful in appearance, but most importantly, it can provide a resting place for pedestrians in rainy days. Rainbow Bridge, an ancient bridge built in Song Dynasty, is the masterpiece of Wuyuan covered bridge. This bridge is named after the Tang poem "Two Rivers Reflect in the Mirror, Two Bridges Fall in the Rainbow". The bridge length is 140m, the bridge deck is more than 3m wide, with 4 piers and 5 holes. It consists of 1 1 pavilions, stone tables and benches. The scenery around the Rainbow Bridge is beautiful, with beautiful green hills and clear water. Sitting here for a short rest and browsing the surrounding scenery will make people deeply appreciate the beauty of Wuyuan.

3. Structure

The wooden part of rainbow bridge deck is designed and considered from the continuity and long-term of the bridge. Do it from the perspective of economy, firmness, durability and easy maintenance. At first glance: the structure is simple, the workmanship is rough, the tenon gap is large, and the corridor is not in a straight line. It shows that the requirements for carpenters are not high, and they are made by ordinary carpenters. The advantage of this is that the bridge is broken, carpenters can be found at any time, and the price is the lowest. Like the houses and ancestral temples of the rich in Wuyuan, they were magnificent when they were built, and now they have financial resources. It is difficult to find a skilled craftsman in maintenance, and it can only disappear with history. But the bridge can't be like this, and generations of children have to go. Therefore, the builders of the bridge took great pains to keep the bridge intact to this day. Although it was built by ordinary carpenters, it embodies the artistic style of simplicity and heavy sense of history. For the convenience of maintenance, the whole bridge is divided into several parts, and each pavilion and corridor is independent, so such a fault will not affect the whole bridge. The fastening between the tenons of Rainbow Bridge does not need nails, and all of them use wooden nails. The use of wooden nails is low in cost and easy to process. Nails for bridge construction are easy to rust and combine with wood. When people walk on the bridge, the bridge will vibrate, nails will wear wood, and the bridge will easily loosen. Nailed with wood, wood has the same property. In vibration, the expansion is the same. After decades, the tenon is still tight and firm. This bridge is made up of four old pine trees over a hundred years old, which are covered with boards for people to walk on. The wooden part of the bridge deck can only be preserved for hundreds of years, so the Rainbow Bridge has been maintained for several generations. After liberation, the last maintenance was in 1985.

4. Design conception

Rainbow Bridge is praised by the media as the most beautiful covered bridge in China, and it is a provincial-level key protected cultural relic. She has a long history and was built in the Southern Song Dynasty, which has been 800 years since. It is140m long and consists of six pavilions and five corridors. A pavilion is built on each pier, and the span between piers is called corridor, so it is also called corridor pavilion bridge. From a distance, the pavilion is slightly higher than the corridor, forming a patchwork. The biggest feature of Rainbow Bridge is that its design is very scientific. First, the pier is like a half-boat, with a sharp front and a flat back, which is streamlined and can decompose the impact of flood on the pier. It is because of scientific design that the ancient bridge can be preserved today. The highest water level recorded in history was close to the bridge deck, when floods raged. If the pier head had been flat, the bridge would have been destroyed by the flood. Understanding this piece depends on the bridge in the historical era, when there was almost no foundation for building a bridge. Stone arch bridge is difficult to build because of its long span. Second, the distance between piers is not equal. The maximum span between piers is twelve meters eight, and the minimum span is nine meters eight, with a difference of three meters. This design is determined according to the flood trend in flood season. The main stream passes through the pier with a long distance, which is beneficial to flood discharge and has little influence on the pier; Where the water flow is gentle, the distance between piers is small, and the influence of flood is relatively small. Third, the masonry method between stones is exquisite. The piers are clamped together with stone strips of different sizes, and the gap is very small and the combination is very firm. This is because the pier is filled with sand and gravel. Once cracks appear in the stone, it will be hit by floods for many years, and it is easy to enlarge the hole. When the sand and gravel are emptied, the pier will collapse. It is difficult to build a pier, and the maximum water depth of the pier is four or five meters. Under the backward production conditions at that time, it was very difficult to clear the rock foundation and build hundreds of kilograms or tons of stones. More than a dozen agricultural water trucks are needed to pump water around the clock to remove stones. Therefore, the original builders wanted to finish the pier and would never rebuild it once and for all. The pier is the most exquisite part of the whole ancient bridge.
