Midnight, originally named Sunset, is a modern novel by China, with about 300,000 words. Mao Dun began to write from June 193 1 year to February 5 1932, with a total of 9 chapters.

The novel takes 1930 semi-feudal and semi-colonial old Shanghai in May and June as the background, and centers on the national capitalist Wu Sunfu, describing all kinds of contradictions and struggles in China society at that time.

Midnight is the earliest novel in the proletarian revolutionary literature movement since the May 4th Movement.
