Du was pardoned as the first batch of pardoned war criminals. 1961March was appointed as the Commissioner of Literature and History of the Literature and History Research Committee of China People's Political Consultative Conference. In June, 1964, 1 1 was elected as a member of the 4th China People's Political Consultative Conference. 1978 was elected as a deputy to the Fifth National People's Congress and a member of the Standing Committee of the Fifth China People's Political Consultative Conference. In the same year, he served as deputy head of the Military Group of the Literature and History Research Committee of China People's Political Consultative Conference. 1981May 7, Du died of illness at the age of 77. China People's Political Consultative Conference spoke highly of Du in its eulogy, calling him "a famous patriot in China".
