First, Zhang Xianliang's spiritual temperament.

Zhang Xianliang, 1936 was born in Nanjing in February. 1In August, 956, he worked as a teacher in Gansu Provincial Party Committee Cadre Culture School. 1In July, 957, he published a lyric poem "Song of the Wind" in Yanhe, and was labeled as a rightist. From 1958 to 1976 18 years, he experienced two reeducation through labor, one control, one prevention and one imprisonment. From a simple life story, we can see that Zhang Xianliang is a writer with many hardships. 1979 has written short, medium and long novels since he returned to the literary world, including Soul and Meat, Sholbrak, Greening Village, Half a Man is a Woman, Accustomed to Death and My Bodhi Tree, among which Soul and Meat, Greening Tree and Sholbrak.

Zhang Xianliang described his personal experiences and encounters in detail in A Paper of Absurd Words, and also expressed many views on his literary ideas. He especially appealed to critics to pay attention to the study of the writer's spiritual temperament. He said, "The short experience of a person's youth has a great influence on him, and the great impact on his nerves can even determine his mental state throughout his life, making him a person of a certain spiritual type ... If this person happens to be a writer, then no matter what theme he chooses, his expression, artistic style, emotional tone and language color will be dominated by this specific spiritual temperament." Looking at Zhang Xianliang's creation, we can say that his novels are the crystallization of philosophical and poetic beauty which is externalized from his unique spiritual temperament. To understand his novels deeply, we should pay attention to his spiritual temperament.

To study Zhang Xianliang's spiritual temperament, we should first pay attention to his youth experience. Before being labeled as "Rightist", he made his mark in the literary world as a talented young poet. In his letter to the editorial department of Yanhe on April 7, 1957,/kloc-0, he declared with the fierceness and confidence of an outspoken young man: "I want to be a poet. I don't want to infect others with my feelings in a great era, and I don't want to light the torch of the next generation with the flame in my chest. This is a sin. At the same time, I am confident that I can, and I have consciously provoked this. Here, we can see young Zhang Xianliang's efforts in life and his great ambition in literature. His lyric poems published at that time, such as Night, Songs to Sing after Work, Folk Songs in the Evening, Songs of the Wind, etc., also revealed his warm feelings, romantic colors and fantasies. Then he was killed because of Song of the Wind, which undoubtedly shocked his nerves greatly and made his spiritual temperament permeate a tragic color, an angry and sad loneliness. As he himself said, "there is always a lonely core in the depths of the soul." During the hardships of life in the past twenty years, he learned the ups and downs of life experience from the bottom of life (including accepting the influence of the natural environment in the northwest and the working people), read a lot of Marxist works, and melted his spiritual temperament into a philosophical meditation on life. It is the above factors. It plays an important and subtle role in the artistic atmosphere, emotional tone and language color of his works, forming his rich, deep, dignified and philosophical artistic style.
