At the Beijing Olympic Games, when Ryu Seung-min was in a bad state, Sang Eun Oh led the Korean team to win the third place in the men's team. In the singles competition, he eliminated German player Bohr, and finally lost to Marin in the 1/4 final, and missed the semi-final. The following year, at the World Table Tennis Championships in Yokohama, Sang Eun Oh was unexpectedly defeated by Japanese teenager Kentai Matsuhira and was out early.
