According to the official reply from the governments of the State Council and Shandong Province, the main content of this partial division adjustment of Weihai City is to cancel Wendeng City and establish Wendeng District of Weihai City, with the original administrative area of Wendeng City (excluding Wangtuan Town and Yishan Town) as the administrative area of Wendeng District. At the same time, Wangtuan Town and Yishan Town of Wendeng City are placed under the administrative jurisdiction of Huancui District of Weihai City, and they are still under the jurisdiction of Lingang Economic and Technological Development Zone.
After this regional adjustment, Weihai has two districts, namely Huancui District and Wendeng District, three national-level development zones, namely Torch High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Economic and Technological Development Zone and Lingang Economic and Technological Development Zone, and two county-level cities, namely Rongcheng City and Rushan City.
According to reports, in recent years, Weihai has sustained and healthy economic and social development, and the framework of global urbanization and urban integration has taken shape. At the same time, the contradiction of narrow administrative area in the central city is becoming increasingly prominent. After Wendeng is removed from the city and divided into districts, it can provide new space for optimizing the functional layout of towns, provide new impetus for promoting the development of urban integration, and provide new support for strengthening the radiation driving force of central cities.
At present, the Wendeng District Committee, District People's Congress, District Government and District Political Consultative Conference of Weihai City have been listed and officially started their work in the name of Wendeng District.
