Hua Ding's family background, under the supervision of his father since childhood, laid a solid foundation for calligraphy. After he took up his post in Hubei Provincial Museum, he took it as his duty to study and inherit the calligraphy art of Chu, Qin and Han bamboo slips unearthed. Over the past 30 years, he has worked tirelessly, quietly and achieved fruitful results. Not only did he publish "Discussion on Calligraphy Art of Chu Bamboo Slips Unearthed in Hubei" and "Collection of Papers on Silk Books of Chu Bamboo Slips in China" in academic journals at home and abroad. Moreover, the calligraphy practice of bamboo slips in Chu, Qin and Han Dynasties has long been fully affirmed by the academic and calligraphy circles, and the copied and written bamboo slips have been collected and displayed by many museums at home and abroad.

Hua Ding's calligraphy works were selected for the 30th anniversary exhibition of reform and opening up in Hubei Province, the 6th calligraphy and seal cutting exhibition in Hubei Province, the painting and calligraphy exhibition celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and the national bamboo slips and silk calligraphy exhibition.
